View Full Version : MCR220 enough for a GTX 295?

Currently running a MCR220 for my 8800 GTS 640 (MCW-60), NB and SB on my DFI X38 w/ a D5 pump. Upgrading to a GTX 295 and was going to get the Koolance FC block, then switch my NB and SB to the same loop as my CPU on a PA120.3 w/ a D5.

This would leave me with the MCR220 cooling only the 295. I am running mid speed yates and was wondering if it would be worth it to upgrade from the 220 to a XSPC dual 120? If we're talking 2-3c and no extra performance out of it, it's not worth it to me. Will the 220 be enough?

Oh, side note... going from 7/16" to 3/8" tubing. I know it'll suck getting those over my D5 barbs, but it would save me $100 from having to buy new tops. Do I have to worry about any problems with the tubing splitting/leaking?

As far as temps go, it won't be worth it. GPU's don't care if they're at 30C or 60C. The 220 would be fine for a 295.

the GTX295 is a friggin hot card. You want a pretty good radiator for it, and they LOVE cold temps, especially the shader clocks. Just on air I got mine an extra 150mhz on the shader clocks by bumping up fan speeds and putting another fan directly on it. It's worth it to get a better rad IMHO.

I would say that you will be fine. Besides for the potential money saved, why don't you try it with your current rad and see what happens. If your video card overclock is below avg. compared to other water cooled 295's then you should upgrade. And if you do, you would see a better improvement by stepping up to a 120.3 rad if you have the room.

wow.... a MCR-220 is excessive for a single 295, it will cool that card to very low temps

It'll be more than sufficient. I have one MCR220 cooling my 4870X2 and temps are just fine.

In case you have a single loop and put the 220 rad after the cpu and before the gpu (res-pump-120.3-cpu-220-gpu-res) will u have the same performance as a dual loop?

With just one pump? Definitely no...

And the reason for this? One pump not enough for 2xrads + 2xblocks? I think its ok.

It'll be worse than dual loop. I assume u understand the reason why...

Hmmm, guess I'll go with the MCR220 for now. I am getting the EK D5 pump top so I can run 3/8 tubing through the entire system... blue for the CPU/NB and red for the gpu. I guess I could do everything in one big loop, but since I have 2x D5, 2x EK 400 res's, and everything else I need for two loops, it will be easier to swap out components.

Another off topic question though, would it be an issue if I connect my res's to the pumps with a bitspower male-male (dual g1/4) adapter? I'm thinking of going with that or the rotary adapter and want to make sure that it wont negatively effect the pump.

iam running the following loop Radiator, moffset 1 -> Moffset 2 ->CPU -> NB-> SB->tank->pump/
on a PA120.3 decent temps for a qx6700 @ 3.6Ghz
I would like to add a GTX 295 (or might go HD4870x2)
Question > will the loop hold the extra load of the vga
I can go for a 2nd loop just for the vga. Will 1 single one do or i need double.
Could you post some temps
