Hey guys, so i figured i would remove the stock cooling (thankfully it was so easy, didnt even need to heat it up or anything, just a simple twist and it came right off)

And to my amazement the original mosfet blocks made pretty good contact. (see pics below)

But my question is as follows... On the instructions that came with bei's blocks it says put the thermal pad on the DDR3 Mosfets (Judging by the size of the thermal pad no more than an inch) im guessing its not the actual mosfets located near the CPU.

So i was wondering if anyone who has these blocks can show me which mosfets the instructions mean, on the pics below. Im guessing they are near the RAM slots...

Also, the instructions say use TIM on the mosfets... should i use TIM or should i use the old thermal pad that was on the original cooling pipes?

Thanks ahead of time! (The only people ive seen with these blocks is DB, Naekuh, and i think evil...) If anyone has them please help out because my board is getting cold sitting around in the nude :P

I just used the original pads and used Ceramique on the NB. Used the original pad on the other chip (SB on this I assume).

no.. just use the thermal pad on the mosfets.

I heard some people had a hard time installing the mosfets, make sure you got them in the right direction. and dont screw all of them down hard the first round. Make sure the holes allign, and slip the screw in half way, the other in half way, and then clamp them down with even pressure.

You dont need super contact, but just good contact, also you have a backplate so you dont need to worry about bowing.

dont worry about the NB block, it only goes in 1 way, because of the holes for the capacitors. You'll understand once you plop the block on.

Enjoy the block!

i understand how the block goes on... hehe... not blonde or anything, i was curious as to where the thermal pad provided goes... does it go near the holes for the capacitors? or is that needed?

 still stumped... i might be blonde afterall. let me show some pics to show you what im not understanding...

does this thermal pad....

have anything to do with these deeper grooves? (not the capacitor holes, the square indents)

those go on top of the mosfet which are below the square caps labeled 1R0 right below your DDR3

more problems encountered... darn it... it seems the holes on the mosfet block copper base plate dont align with those of the motherboard pcb... i tried without the backplate, i even tried srewing the bolts through the top of the plates towards the mother board, and placed it onto the motherboard, and they dont align at all...seems every screw is about 1-2mm off...and whats worse is, that they are off in different directions... :( shipping back to the US, is going to be FRUSTRATING....

can you post a picture?

Maybe your copper bases got flipped.

The block is a 3piece block, the copper plate comes off, and somehow got swaped on the wrong side?

Hey barf i pm'd bei.

It might be faster if bei just sends you fixed copper parts if thats the case, so hold up. I told him to come in this thread.

thanks naekuh... id like to take pics but the amount of time i have available atm is kinda low... im packing as we speak to head back home to Greece for a week... so unfortunately its going to have to wait a little bit.

I would like to see pics. I can't see how the spacing could be off unless the board is a new revision. Send me a PM and I will work everything out for you.

i made a little video to show you how one isnt aligned, and if i move the block to align it, another hole becomes un-aligned. from the looks of it, its the long mosfet (the top one) that has the problem... Damn youtube taking three hours to upload... ill post a link as soon as it is uploaded...

i managed to get it on, but i did not screw in the screw that is not exposed... would that cause non efficient contact? i mean, would it hurt my mosfets?

here is the video i promised...

let me know what u think...

I think what you need to do is install the fasteners closest to the I/O area first. Then install the one underneath that is not exposed. From there I would apply some pressure the the copper and it should move enough to get the fastener in. Keep in mind that you don't want to tighten the fasteners all the way. The holes in the acetal were large enough to make slight manipulations to the block for installation purposes.

i did try moving the block putting pressure etc, and i tried mounting it with different techniques for a good 1.5 hours to no avail... as i said in a previous post, its mounted, but i didnt screw the screw that isnt exposed to the front side of the motherboard... ill see how it runs, and if i sense or see anything not going right, ill let you know... thanks though... maybe a small ehads up, i dont know if mine was faulty or if my mobo is a different revision but none the less something to keep in mind for future builders.

all things aside though these blocks are super cool! although my cpu doesnt align the way i thought it would (i forgot the mounting position for these boards is sideways...) so now i ahve to think of a new tubing layout... but, i really like the finish.

Can you tell me the revision of your board?

NaeKuh and Darth can you look and see if the revs on your boards are the same?

Rev 1.02G is mine

I pray there is no revision issue because that may effect by build if I end up rmaing my motherboard...
