Is 2048 MB(2GB) to big for a paging file, and slow stuff down, or does it not matter as long as its big enough?

Umm, the x times amount of RAM business is really no good.

The more RAM you have, the less swap you need. I run 700MB with 512MB of RAM, and that's WAY too much for 95% of the stuff I do.

You are absolutely correct....with the huge amounts of memory people are running now days, that old x rule is outdated. I should read my own links. ;)

I have 2 Gig of RAM... well i couldn't RMA the first gig, so ending up using them as well....
I am running no paging file.. that's alright for running day to day app, but it's bad business when I am running PRIM95 and Sisoft Sandra Mem test.
Does that mean it's no good? thanks

If I had 2 gb of memory, I don't think I would run a swap file either. You could experiment by creating a small one, preferrably on a different hard drive than your system files and see if gives you any better performance. Maybe when rendering video, if you do that? I guess it all boils down to what you use your pc for and what works best for you. With 2 gbs of ram, I would think you are better off to use your memory than your hard drive, but how could it hurt to have a swap file in case it's needed?
