Heya Guys

If this isn't quite the right place for this, do excuse me and feel free to move it :P

Every time I try to perform a full system scan, the system hangs, and i either get a blue screen or just a lockup, and am forced to restart. I think the last bluescreen quoted hal***.sys (Hardware Abstraction Layer? I think that's something to do with the hard disks, maybe it's encountering an error while scanning? I ran checkdisk on all my disks, no problems found.)

Anyway, I asked around and me dad said he'd had the same problem, and it was down to it trying to scan in compressed files, so i unchecked that box in the options, and tried to scan again, only to get the same system lockup..

Can anyone helpĀ¬?!"

Cheers :]

What temps are you getting? It sounds like the cpu can't handle the load, try going back to default settings and see if that solves the problem

I get 50 idle with my tornado turned down to 7v, which is what i do anyway, whilst playing games etc. and it doesn't complain.
However come to think of it it did lock up once or twice the other week...

I've got an under-rated heatsink on it too :( which is why i bought the tornado just to cover my back until i can buy a new one.

I'll try turning the tornado up and running it.. monitor the temperatures too

Ahh that's great, thanks a lot - has sorted it :P
lol I'm so stupid :p
I guess it isn't 100% stable at 7v - I should really get that 947-U I've been after...

Also.. just a quick question, can my ram hold back my o/c on my processor? :D

Cheers

Cheers 10x i'm happy that you've sorted thisout

IS your cpu unlocked or not? If it's locked then yes, it might hold you back but i need more info on your system to really help you

Am i not right in thinking that all bartons are unlocked as default from stock?
If not, how would i go about unlocking it and what would this acheive?

All the barton are unlocked (sorry i didn't checked the sig)
I think the ram is holding your fsb but you can up the multi and get the best out of your cpu without a problem

Yeah, the absolute maximum i'm getting at the moment is 167fsb (appauling), any more than that and the ram craps out. raising the multiplier also causes it to not POST :(

try to put the fsb @133 and see how far does the chip go. Try raising the vcore
What cooling are u using?

Rob

Zalman CNPS5100-Cu with an 80mm Tornado

Okay, i'll try that. Not sure about raising the vcore yet though :)
I don't want to break anything ;) sorry, i'm over-cautious :D

Not only is it the RAM but also, the A7N8X boards really hated FSB, you should be getting higher than you are (with good RAM) but when you do get good RAM you wont go much further with that board. Expect around 190FSB. Raising voltages is fun, we got to get you trained up mate! :D lol

190 isn't bad; better than 160 :/ lol

I'm okay, just a humble noob me ;x

What ram you reckon I should get? Cost isn't too much of a problem, I'm after 512MB in Dual Channel :)

Is there any chance of getting BH5?

You should try the new crucial, they look like they're great performers and oc'ers

I don't know what is it, i doubt that it is bh5, maybe ch5
It's hard to find some bh5 atm

do you have a virus?

Rob

No, I ran the scan as previously mentioned, no virus was found.
