I'm kind of wishing the platform of choice would be AM3, it would make for some stellar overclocks  Maybe this Core i7 D0 stepping will be available by the competition and make it a little more interesting.

Gigabyte should do something like this for all countries. Open to anyone who can submit scores and then just take top xx number of people. Would level the playing field a little bit since it seems many people have contacts at gigabyte and just automatically get picked?

It's a shame that the pseudo-Czech qualifications were actually a Slovak contest. Don't want to dig why it is now marked as Czech, when only overclockers from Slovakia could enter the qualifications. It is not my intent to spoil anything, but to such behaviour I have to express my disagreement, and also IMO it is unfair, since it effectively cuts away a huge chance for talented Czech overclockers ( with limited funds ) to prove themselfs.

The Slovak qualification was too bad, every CPU-s what we have there was been Engeniering Sample from other series and every one are been tested before the qualification by editors. Between the boards we have sample boards, some of the rams wouldn´t like go whith Core I7 on high frequency.

But i´m soo happy from the meeting whith Czech overclockers, and my friend OBR

gomeler;3661691']Invite only from what I can gather talking to Angela. They are inviting 2 Canadians, 3oh6 for a short period of time was both Canadian entries when I mentioned him to Angela  Competition will be April 24th-25th in LA, not sure on the venue but I imagine it's the golf resort they keep shacking us up in.

Invite? Why not an open competition? If you can pay to travel to them I dont see why they would want to restrict it... Seems many other countries are open comps...

Contact gigabyte-USA and tell them this. I am just relaying what little info I gathered in a 3 minute conversation. Seems GOOC is improving every year, hopefully they'll keep funding it and standardize it globally. I personally don't think it's fair that they'll only be inviting 2 from USA when we have as many benchers as Europe combined.

It's the economy if I had to guess. This isn't a climate that's conducive to holding a contest involving a lot of expensive hardware and expensive prizes.

how do they make their selection?

US will have 2, one team is the freestyle champion last year, the other one
will come out from NA regional final ( semi-final), total has 2 present NA.

from europe same case, one is last year battle for best P45 winner(sweden), and one will be out from regional final.

pan-asis & china, each area has one team for worldwide final(taipei)

so, total has 6 teams will join the final competition in taipei.

Exactly this should be an open competition for anyone to give it a shot... And the qualifications should be kept to tweaking skills like a 32M low clock challenge or 2001 LCC. That eliminates having to bin hardware and eliminates freak cpus making one team impossible to beat. (while at the same time keeping costs down for gigabyte - no LN2 needed, no binning of hardware needed, etc)

I dont see how they can call it a championship with private invitations and no qualifiers :shakes:

yo gautam, i understand your point of view, but a good tweaker who has never ran ln2 before will win the low clock challenge but fail horribly at a World Wide event under pressure and new to ln2. best tweaker doesnt define The Best overclocker is what i mean. (who knows if the guy beating hipro5 because he has i7 and 1x280 knows how to run ln2 at a competition vs all the pro's, or have run ln2 at all, and we know hipro is no weak tweaker so he gave his best entering) i could be completely wrong, i do not know the guy so sorry if im wrong!!

-tweaking
-insulating
-know how during ln2 (troubleshooting, coldbug controll etc) [you should know you ran 2x4870x2 on ln2, its tough not all can do it)
-vmodding
-gpu freezing

etc.. if you have all those you should go through, but yea hardware varies allot, and comps will never be fair enough (someone will always be unhappy)

but i understand not everyone has hardware to compete vs a guy with 6ghz dual core. but there is no way to make overclocking a 100% fair sport ;).

This card i bought with my own money to enter ;p.. im stil in school so not much funding, but luckily i get sponsors for other things like motherboards !

http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/7758/gx21.jpg

System for this weekend to enter:
Ep45T Extreme (640 fsb+)
E8600 ln2
9800gx2 ln2
should give me good global 2001 while im at it!

You are right.
That's why the final scores will be "verified" by bringing in the contestants after the contest ends to let them perform their magic live and see if they did nothing wrong and they're on par ;)
Modding, insulating & LN2 "control" capabilities are also needed, so a check up on that is recommended :)

By the way, I'm the guy :p:

No need to apologize Vivi ;)
You did nothing wrong, just stated the not so obvious ( but reasonable of course ).

Unless someone borrows me a nFORCE 790i motherboard I'll play with single card and i7 more than likely just to give Hipro5 some competition.

Since Hipro5 is competing in the Single-GPU category, his partner will be drawn from the Multi-GPU category, so it'll be Stelios, gprhellas, dread77, or me ( if I find a 790i board since SLI isn't working with the X58 chipset in 3D Mark2001SE :( ).

Hope to meet you there man ;)

Not a fan, those of us that enjoy brute forcing benchmarks get left out. I don't care if my efficiency is 90% of the next guys if my frequencies and mods yield 110% higher performance. This might always be my downfall but it's more fun building crazy contraptions to cool random stuff

And the qualifications should be kept to tweaking skills like a 32M low clock challenge or 2001 LCC. That eliminates having to bin hardware and eliminates freak cpus making one team impossible to beat.

BTW the Hungarian qualifications round was held last Saturday.
Invitational, two teams: Hun eXtreme OC Team and OC Team Hungary

EX58-d4-something, i940 and GTX260, 3×1GB kingston and buffalo SSD;
plus lots of LN2. No modifications were allowed to the gfx card, though,
stock cooler and stock volts on that front.

There were two challenges: first SPi 8M then 3dm06.

Hun eXtreme OC team had better luck with the cpu, managing ~4.8G;
OC Team Hungary got a worse bin, only reaching 4.65G, and while
they got closer than that %-wise with tweaking, they couldn't make up
the difference.
This eventually sealed the result, as 3d06 scores only got half as many
points: OC-T-H got 3-400 more 3d06 points despite the lower cpu clock,
but as H-X-OC-T won SPi, they also won the qualification.

So you'll be seeing H-X-OC-T at the next round.
Good luck to all contestants!

You can't take that quote too literally, Gautam is no stranger to insane clocks. He takes them for granted when making this statement. The idea he is embracing has a lot of merit in a competition like this that has seen hardware decide outcomes. I would also agree you cannot leave out the things Vivi mentioned. Depending on the hardware used in a qualifier or final, the limit could be set somewhere in the range you would only reach on LN2, that way you ensure the tweaker or the hardware alone will not dominate the field.

If he did, he at least didn't pick me. It seems that the Gigabyte Nordic office want's to do that job for him, maybe I disappointed them last time or whatnot... It'd been logical if it were first and second placed contestants (not like last year when I finished third... :ROTF:) who got to go to the European finals, but I just have to wait and see. At least I got a tri-channel kit of Kingston HyperX PC14400 out of it, if nothing else. :)

Jabski + me didnt win the UK leg. We had a crappy CPU for the SuperPi section and we were too slow/hungover to change it over in time.

A guy called Phil won :D He'll be at the euro finals with Thickbrit

The 3D Mark2001SE Low Clock Challenge for the Greek qualifiers was a great idea ( not saying that because I was "involuntarily" a part of the team who thought of this :p: ) but also a "painful" process due to CPU Limitations.
It's a good challenge though, everyone's working hard ( I know someone who's benching every day for 12h hours or even more :D ).

Very close to the Swedish scores. I guess they were running around 4.75 for that 1:38 run. :)
Hello,
yes 4738 for this run. We make after the competition 1mn35sxxx at 23x214=4922Mhz. What will be your partner in Prague ?

Last thing, my partner isn't Dam1stn like I always read in Syndrome OC but Dami1stm :yepp:

Do we have informations for the EU finals ? (setup, cooling, vmods ...)

Congrats to winners and to the organisation of france GOOC.

Boblemagnifique and me were very very disapointed about the 940 es we got ! This CPU was simply the worst i7 i ever seen ...
A nice 3Dmark 2006 to 4050Mhz and Super Pi 8M to 4300Mhz  .

dinos22
03-01-2009, 02:11 AM
thanks Dean

it was a close one as usual.

This is the hardware we used

Intel Core i7 Extreme 965
GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD4P
ENERMAX Revolution85+ 1050W
GIGABYTE GV-N26-896H-B (GTX260 65nm)
KINGSTON KHX14400D3K3/3GX

i cant remember exact results but i think it was something along the lines of

1st Round > 3DMARK Vantage
dinos22 > 13,010
deanzo > 12,8xx
bobnz > 12,3xx
T_M > 11,9xx i think....cant recall

I was testing CPU clocks during start of the first round.....pretty sure T_M's chip was good for 4.7GHz or more cant recall exactly, deanzo was in mid 4.6GHz, my chip was at first maxing out at 4.7GHz but later i found 31xmulti along with 1.575v uncore and 1.58vcore helped me push to 4.8GHz (13K run) and later just messing with clocks i ended up crashing CPU tests at ~4870....my GPU was clocking past deanzo's but i must have had some throttling or instability as my GPU points were somewhat less efficient than his....i didnt really do any tweaking at all....just brute runs.....i posted the first and my highest score around half hour mark and then tried to improve it with some more CPU clocks and slight GPU clock increases but was always some 30-60 points within the initial score...later i tested RAM a little in prep for second round seeing that my 13K will hold out. Deanzo gave it a good bash starting with low 12K and slowing inching up and up with 150point increases ....in the end it was a fairly close finish :)

2nd Round > 32M SuperPi
dinos22 > 7m28s
deanzo > 7m41s
bobnz > 8m13s ??
T_M > no sure?!?

Second round was not as straight forward for me. i ran into some difficulties. My setup was acting up and i could not do 32M at same or similar clocks to vantage clocks . i was struggling to get runs done at anything decent and as i never really bench vista for superpi also stuggled with the OS....i decided to just ignore what was going on around me and got stuck into tweaking the OS....turning off services and just trimming it a fair bit...also experimented with maxmem and had to turn it off and leave it at default........the clock was ticking away and i was still not hitting the clocks i wanted....deanzo came up with his fastest time on first run at 7m41s...he was benching ~4.95GHz. i honestly thought that i would be doing those clocks dead easy with a CPU that could bench vantage semi stable at high 4.8GHzlol....after some trial and error i decide to back off on the RAM and get some runs on the board....first bench was at 4.8GHz with 7m45s.....was happy with the efficiency considering it was vista, no wazza/maxmem and semi bloated OS. i knew i had stronger efficiency than deanzo but had to fight clocks and started slowly nudging them up and posted 7m39s, next was 7m33s and last run from memory was around 4920MHz and ended up at 7m28s to finish the comp...improvements came from CPU clocks rises and tweaking RAM primary and secondary timings as my runs went on into the comp....

my CPU cold bug was -87C, deanzo's was -84C i think and i think T_M said high -70s, not sure on bobnz's chip

it will be great to team up with you in Thailand in april and all the boys competing for Taipei global finals qualification

The 1st form the Single card and the 1st of the Multiple Cards will go the the finals ;)

Test : 3DMark01 with limitation to CPU at 4000MHz

Just updated my single GPU score.
Nothing spectacular, not yet at least:

The competition in the dual GPU category is looking good, and it's going to be a close call.

Hi Guys,

Finally the Indonesian GOOC 2009 Final is done...

I'm glad to represent Indonesia for Asia Pasific finals in Bangkok, Thailand ;)

Our finals looks like this :

The Hardware Specs :
Intel Core i7 -940(ES)
GIGABYTE EX58-UD3R, BIOS F5b
DDR3 Triple Channel Kingston KHX14400D3K3/3GX
GIGABYTE GV-N26OC-896GH GeForce GTX260
Hitachi 160 GB SATA II
PSU Enermax Evolution 85+ 1050 Watt

The Benchmark :
- 3DMark Vantage(nV PhysX allowed)
- Super PI 8M
- Cinebench 10
- Everest Memory Benchmark(Read)

Operating System Windows Vista Ultimate SP1

Cooling Allowed for CPU: HSF, Watercooling, Dry Ice

On the GPU, No hardware modification or HSF change is allowed

Points will be given as follows :
1st = 10 pts
2nd = 8 pts
3rd = 6 pts
4th = 4 pts
5th = 2 pts

-----------------------------------------------------------------

The Final resuts is as follows :

http://i419.photobucket.com/albums/pp275/Lucky_n00b/GOOC%202009/goocfinal.jpg

Most of the CPU used maxxed out at 4.3 - 4.4 Ghz for Multithreading bench, and 4.5 - 4.7Ghz for single thread bench, all done with dry ice cooling(-50 to -60 C),

And since we use an ES CPU, we cannot change the Memory Multiplier(stays at 8x) and Uncore Multiplier(stays at 16x), so the Everest Read wasn't too good..

More pics soon, need to rest...

Btw, what Country will be participating in Asia Pasific Qualifier in Bangkok ?

Congrats to Dino (and Deanzo) for taking out #1 and #2 in Aussie.
I was trounced after poor clocking video card (#4th in Vantage) and then a non-responsive system for SuperPI.
Wish i hadnt had every single extreme nerd in the place bothering me the whole time! I guess someone has to be the "PR" for the night.

Was great fun as always, and good to see Josh crawl out of the woodwork :D

See you guys in Thailand (ill be there anyway ;))

You can't take that quote too literally, Gautam is no stranger to insane clocks. He takes them for granted when making this statement. The idea he is embracing has a lot of merit in a competition like this that has seen hardware decide outcomes. I would also agree you cannot leave out the things Vivi mentioned. Depending on the hardware used in a qualifier or final, the limit could be set somewhere in the range you would only reach on LN2, that way you ensure the tweaker or the hardware alone will not dominate the field.

That's all right Mark, Chris is still just bitter about what I did to his 01 and AM3 last year. :D

not sure how many ppl here went to Taiwan last year. Gigabyte crew is very professional. These dates can be tricky to confirm as things can change that are out of their control. Thats why its best to wait for absolute final dates when they tell you to go book flights etc
