Since the matrox tri-head doesn't support 2560 x 1600, I was thinking of a way to get around that.

Could you still use the matrox tri-head or dual head for two monitors at the max supported resolution for the ATI 4870 X2 and than use one of the cards outputs for the main monitor at 2560 x 1600?

You've confused me, lol.....which isn't hard to do btw :p:

If you use your Triple head (which takes it's feed from a dvi on your 4870X2) to run 2 displays.....would it then be possible to run a third display off of a second dvi port on your 4870X2 at a resolution of 2560x1600?

Did I get this right?

Yes, that is correct.

So you could run 2560x1600 with the centre screen and than run 1920x1200 on the two screens on the sides through the Triple head.

It should be possible yes.

If you wanna run a larger triple display then perhaps you could look at this http://www.kegetys.net/SoftTH/

I use it to run 3x displays without the use of triplehead but you could adapt it for your purposes :)

Ah I have seen that, but I been told it might be tricky to get working or not work at all?

If it really works, do you think I be able to run 2560x1600 on all three screens?

I dont know about this, seeing as how the dualhead is seen by the computer as a single monitor.

for simplicity ill refer to the dual head as a single 3840x1200 monitor (mon1) and the directly connected monitor as a single 2560x1600 (mon2).

if you are saying that you want to use mon1 as the side screens and mon2 as the center screen, then you would have to somehow configure the computer to display part 1 using horizontal pixels 0 through 1920 and part 3 using horizontal pixels 1921 through 3840. lastly you would have to display part 2 on mon2.

naturally you can not stager parts 1, 2 and 3,
its always:
mon1 = parts 1 & 2, mon2 = part 3.
or
mon1 = parts 2 & 3, mon2 = part 1

If im correct and you can understand it, this sounds almost impossibly complicated!

I was thinking more about this, you know there must be a way to do it, because how else do they get them mega display screens to work all together at events and :banana::banana::banana::banana:?

its probably done through software similar to SoftTH which im sure gives much more flexibility

The mega-displays are done with repeaters.
