Any votes on whether I should pick one up or not? $400 is the asking price.

an 18 inch sub? geez... i consider 10 inch sub speakers enough for most applications.. you must be running a disco tech?

I've got 2 10" Kicker L7's and 2 12" JL 12W6 V1's. I just wanted something different lol... and this thing is rated at 5000w RMS/10,000w peak.. here's two (very top link) powered with ~7-8000w RMS: http://www.realmofexcursion.com/brands/maaudio.htm (direct link if it works: http://www.realmofexcursion.com/videos/MA%20Audio/kore18.1.wmv)

I'd actually like to get another pair of the Kickers (and the JL's too lol) but they'd have be matching ones (both sets are original release models).

Also W7's are nice, but overpriced.

I'm actually tempted to go grab another but then i'd need another amp for sure..

on a side note, the Logitech Z-560 sub (8" - Tangband iirc) works surprisingly well on about 350W RMS (Kicker ZX750.1) lol..

edit - Going in my Yukon for now until I get a better truck then its a blow-hole to a modified box ;)

Hooked it up today. I need a bigger amp... and a box although it still manages to shake most everything free-air.....

You need to listen to this one:

( It's a subwoofer, don't get fooled by the design )

Man, I really want to get a 15" L7, but I would have to get a new amp and box lol.

BenchZowner - Velodyne dual-driver. Servo subs are neat but overly expensive for their performance ;)

Expensive ? For sure.
But the sound quality is way beyond every single unit that I've used or heard ( in movies & house music )

If I wanted to spend big bucks i'd go with a ribbon backed up by a line array.

Stevil, I am gonna have to agree with Bench on this one. That Velodyne is the ultimate in sub sound quality and performance. Beyond the fact that it is the worlds most powerful non-car sub, velodynes are the defacto standard for studio use. My father works over at capitol studios and whenever they need a top notch sub, velodyne is the pick.

No, but you did kind of go out of your way to make them look like the next best thing since sliced bread.... ;)

It is also not the worlds most powerful "non-car" sub ;)

They are pretty awesome, hence my comments.

What sub is more powerful?

The Dayton 15 is pretty good, probably equal given an equivalently well designed box. Shiva's were better but are hard to find now.

Most any one of these would give that Velodyne a run for its money in the output quantity department and thats just going off what is available at partsexpress.com..:

But as we both no quantity does not tell the whole story.

the sound is solid imo ... been using for 5 years i think

hmm ... on home theaters .. usually you'll need 2 subwoofers .. one for the front, one for the back
i had only Harman Kardon set on home .. not much to recommend .. coz it got blasted by karaoke

actually it's not the diameter size of the subwoofer that matters ... it's the area coverage ..
in some tight places with lotsa of furnitures .. sometimes 2 mini subwoofers works better than 1 large sub

Placement helps and if your system is tuned correctly you shouldnt need more than one sub for a typical home setup, and if you're going to use more than one then use one for every channel to at least reinforce any directionality you're incurring when using two or more..

Only have a single 8" at home and it works pretty nice due to hardwood floors ;)

so what's ur plan? :D

getting a ring made for it so I mount it inverted in my current box while I decide what to do. Just been running free-air at the moment to break it in ;)

Easily the best of the bunch and I've heard most of them. The only big non-sloppy Woofer under $700 for the RAW speaker. It's what My bud uses in his shop/studio to compare everything else to.

The 15" Dayton Titanic MK III 15" is under rated and has to be heard to be believed.

I'm glad I broke my Basshead addition many years ago. There's alwasy something better than costs more money.

Something to LOL at:rofl:

I dunno, i'm actually surprised by what the MA's doing without a box (still waiting on that ring..) at only ~800w (Kicker ZX750.1 1.3 ohm).

I will be getting a second one and doing some amp changing (getting another ZX750.1 or getting two Lanzar Opti2000D's (~1600w RMS @ 1.3 ohm each) then running a ~14 cube box tuned to about 20hz or so. My aim is low frequencies, not necessarily SPL though I will be making the port changeable so I can do some SPL stuff if I want to.

Either way it happens I need a new box now because I bought a truck to replace the Yukon lol ;)

edit - for the record i'd buy an Adire Partenon before I paid cash for a Jackhammer, though i'd not mind a jackhammer.

Hey, I hear ya. Those 12/15" JA Audio long throw subs as beasts as well. I love the Balance of the Electro Voice (been measured as low as 16Hz) and they can go from the House to the Car with ease. I'm not some Audiophile wanna be nut but do love sweet sounds. I just use two simple and cheap Pioneer Premiere Series 10" Subs with Two Polk 10" woofers in my Mains and One 12" for LFE. It measures down to just under 17hz. Lanzar ain't bad at all! I'm getting too old for this:rofl:

I like a blend of Sub and Woofer for Low to Mid Bass ranges. I play Bass Guitar and often hear too much of it missing from either just a Sub or Just woofers. I like this in Stereo since most affordable receivers and bass redirection messes up Music for me. Gosh I love my old Harmon Kardon 730.
