View Full Version : Difference between C and R?

A resistor came off my motherboard for some unknown reason. Its labeled as ZC74, and its a yellow strip like the many you see on a motherboard. I know for Rs you can replace those with appropriate resistors but for this "C" thing, can you do the same thing? I tried measuring the resistance off the tiny resistor that came off but got no reading, perhaps because its wrecked. If I know the orginal resistance, will soldering on a resistor work?

u sure it's resistor? might be a surface mount capacitor..

Actually I'm not even sure what it is, probably what you said, a surface mount capacitor. It looks exactly like the ones circled in red.

Is there any chance of replacing it?

Its a capacitor.

Replace it with one of a similar size and your board should be fine.

Hi, how do I know what size it is?

Ok, I put back on a 0.1UF SMD cap and now the board works great like before. Thx guys!
