Can't say I dislike the aesthetics. Having a little tornado in your loop is pretty cool.
The sound on the other hand...

Yeah. You guys nailed it. It's screaming and begging "Please Stop! I'm not an air pump!" :D

 Uh Oh! Let's see... F2 maybe? That is not what you wanna see hovering near your beachfront property. That thing looks like it might've been a waterspout that made landfall. Very dangerous! Those things can dump millions of gallons of water right down on stuff and demolish it, and then blow it all away.

u need to get a piece of plastic or something that u can jam in there, preferably something that would stand vertical int he center

That wasn't me. That was a video I found that I thought was kinda neat, but alarming at the same time. I just ordered the rest of my stuff lastnight. I have an EK 250 and hope it doesn't do that. I plan to screw mine right on the top also. I'm hoping it's tall enough that it won't go all the way back through the pump.
It is kinda neat looking, but that's not a good thing to have in there. hehe :)

It sucks air into the loop. How smart...

That is impressive though. It shows how powerful that little pump really is. Man, that thing moves some water for it's size. The bottom of my EK has the like a I_I shaped anti vortex doodad in the bottom. I foget what they call it. Hopefully it will not do that.

they all do that if u screw them directly on, its less the farther u go but thats the problem with a round rez
thats what this is for

I know this from somewhere, in my own experience when I still had thath X-res 100, I still have it now but's in my cupboard in it's box, I've ran 2-3 days with the noise ^^, but then I made my custom el cheapo anti-cyclon plate :p
but it was looking so cool :p

You can have a cool vortex but without sucking air when having a little larger res and have it closer to full ;)
This is mine :D

LOL...those little things do raise some hell when first filling. Especially when testing without any noticable restriction. I found that using the single center ported end for the bottom, and the multi inlet/outlet for the top/return helps with the vortex also. I've never had a issue with vortex or bleeding when used like that.
Here's an example and they work great for the EK res, even the first version without the anti-vortex feature which I never really understood anyway.

Thanks for the suggestion but ain't gonna happen. Over 40 connection points on my rig, so not willing to drop over 300.00 in clamps even with as nice as Evil's stuff is.
Besides, I like using colored wire ties as a contrast, I think they look great.
Like I said though, appreciate the suggestion.

Dude Evil should sponsor you with this rig . . . .best publicity he could ask for. I bet you could get that rig published on the cover of CPU Mag ;) Heck I will throw in a good word for you if you want to go that route (cover gets you 1500 plus the write up).

is that awful sound created by the vortex ?

is that awful sound created by the vortex ?
Kind of...it's the sound of the pump chewing on the air it's sucking in.

1. Goto Ebay and Google 1oz Silver Ingot.
2. Drop 1oz Silver Ingot in res like so:
You got an UBER Biocide + anti Vortex = You supper happy.

Optional:
3. Add Koolance Quick Disconnect as a plug and get an UBER FAST drain.

I have it now, but mine looks a little bit diffirent, but it works, but that res top isn't in use anymore, got a multires 250 right now, and I'm happy with it :)
Just... no. This would be a good way to kill your pump quickly, due to the air it is taking in.

**Edit** Wow, I feel like an idiot now. This was literally just discussed.
Does anyone happen to know though if the small sized anti-cyclone (EK) works just as well as the normal?
I can't find the normal size in stock anywhere, and if they do the same job...

is that awful sound created by the vortex ?
Yep. It's called cavitation, and it's a bad bad thing. The pump trying to pump air which causes the rpms to go up. It actually can cause damage to impellers, and bearings. Cavitation will slow the flow. It's not working efficiently as it should, and bubbles and air will go through your system increasing temps. Air is bad. Those little cyclones look neat, but if they go all the way through the fitting that's bad news.

It's fine with me, if it's OK with the mods. I like pics and discussion.
Thanks for the suggestions too. I saw Nakuh's suggestions and the others as well. Options are good. Most of these systems have slightly different things in them, and it seems like ti changes the way these Vortex's or Cyclones act. Some have "good" cyclones that don't go through the loop and are kinda neat, others like the OP showed are "bad" cyclones that we don't want.
I've got some options now. I suspect I will see a Vortex of some kind since I'm going directly onto the XSPC res top I ordered via a Male to male fitting.
I've got options to deal with it if I do now. I hope this thread helps others too. I've read alot on here about these Vortex issues, but that Video shows it.
What impressed me the most was how much water that little pump moves even with that air going through there. These little pumps are really efficient. It's amazing. They do have to be setup just right though.

Wow! That looks just like the picture of that REAL tornado that Rip posted! :ROTF: Check it out! It is spinning so fast it is bending just like that tornado. At one point the Vortex almost went horizontal.
Man, this stuff is incredible man. I can wait to get ahold of this stuff and play with it some. I do hope I don't get those ones that go all the way through though. My EK does have the anti-vortex in it. I think I'm gonna use mcoffey's suggestion too.
I wish I could get my hands on one of those orange v1 impellers. I'm gonna put my pump setup on top of a fan so that might be the real deal there.
Meh... my system was sucking air through an EK ress400.... had to get a piece for some thin acrylic(or something like that) wich i fittet in the middle of it. Hardly visible and does the job

yes, it works very well in it, the regular ones doesn't even fit well and just turn around in the res, but the small ones work good and let the loop even bleed fast ;)
