I believe the compression fittings have to have the right size tubing. If it didn't it would not compress the tubing to prevent leaks.
The fitting is designed for .750 Outer Diameter and you would be trying to put on .625. That's just too much of a difference.
I'm sure it would go on but it would not compress.
