While HP’s recently released Mini 1000 is designed for consumers, its new HP Mini 2140 Notebook PC caters to the mobile professional. An update and replacement to HP’s original 2133 Mini-Note, the 2140 sports the same durable chassis and well-designed keyboard as its predecessor but adds a larger 10-inch screen and an Intel Atom processor that pays off in 7-plus hours of battery life (with a six-cell battery). Add in fast-charge technology and hard drive protection, and the $529 Mini 2140 is our top netbook pick for road warriors.

i'm itching to get this thing but i'm going to wait till the 1366 x 768 display drops this March. Ideally if they swapped out the cpu and gpu for AMD's platform would make this an awesome light gamer.

Specs: CPU: 1.6-GHz Intel Atom N270 (hope its OCable in BIOS:D)
Operating System: Windows XP Home
RAM/Expandable: 1GB/2GB
Hard Drive Size/Speed: 160GB/5,400 rpm
Display/Resolution: 10.1 inches/1024 x 576 1366 x 768 in March
Video: Intel GMA 950 integrated graphics chip with 64MB (hope its expandable to 128 in BIOS:p:)

I've just read on HP website that it will support DDR2 800Mhz. That's nice :)

looks like the keyboard on the old macs. i kinda like it :)
it's about time HP made it to the netbook segment, but i'm surprised it's priced so high!

The screen area looks a little more nice and cleaner than the MSI wind, but prices does not beat the wind. Also waiting for the new resolution, although the same screen size with a larger resolution would mean that everything you look at is also smaller. And this is already a 10" screen!

Nice, another addition to the Netbook family.
I'm enjoying my 900HA a lot... all this horse power for only $330!

Maybe it will accept 800MHz modules, but they will run at 533.

About time? They were among the first, although with a VIA C7 inside;
and they have already had the 1000 since last fall.

Good:
- it got the better chassis and keyboard of the 2133
- it has expresscard, which is a rarity among netbooks; although at
the expense of the third usb, which might be more useful

Bad:
- high price,
- small touchpad (why didn't they put a trackpoint there?)
- Atom N-series with 945GSE instead of Z-series with US15W
- very bulky battery

I've got a feeling laptop makers just don't want to design a decent
netbook...

I dislike Touch Pad Jr. My EeePC 900 has a more-normal-sized multitouch pad, which kicks the ass of those Acers and these HPs. Anytime you think you can compete with a touchpad the size of an EeePC 700's, you have a screw loose.
