Yesterday I loaded Yellow Dog Linux 6.1 (http://us.fixstars.com/support/installation/ydl6.1_ps3_guide.pdf) on my PlayStation 3. I intalled it in a 10G byte partition. I download OGR beta linux version CellBE v2.9102.508b from http:///www.distributed.net/.
It's putting out about 151 Mnode/S. This is a little less than an overclocked Q6600. It's only taking 110 watts. My Q6600 boxes run around 160 to 230 watts.
When creating the Yellow Dog DVD I wasn't sure if it would have the PS3 folder and files that is required for installing in on the PS3, but it does. When installing it I got the message that contained "The partition table on device PS3da was unreadable ..." and something like if continuing it would destroy everything. I looked it up on the internet and found that this was ok and it only destroys stuff in the partition that I was loading into. In my case this was the 10G byte partition I created before the install.
Before creating the partition via the PS3 setting menu, you do need to back up the PS3, because it will wipe out the saved game info.
