Hey guys

Any one knows what heat spreaders can be removed safely or at least they can be removed from ddr2 1066 ram ?

Most companies.. you will void any warranty you have if you do so.

Yes, it can be done, but you must do it slow and the right way, or you will probably rip IC's off the modules.

Make sure they are warm,so the tim is gooey.
If not your going to rip stuff off it.

Be sure to take your time too. Don't try to rip them off, you want to slowly peel them back.

i use a razor wen i was doing this i was pulling the heatspreader up and the razor between the chip to hold it down :p it works great and it doesn't need too much heat on the spreaders

I used a fine flat tipped screw driver and a hair dryer on high. Got the module nice and how and with small prying movements spaced equally about, slowly removed the heat spreader on some Patriot memory. Really though the key is just keeping the module hot so as to weaken the thermal tape/compound and to use small but persistant motions to slowly lift the spreaders off.

G.Skill makes ram modules that have easy to remove heatspeaders - all you need to do is heat them up a bit (memory stress testing worked for me) and they should come off without too much hassle.

I think only Corsair uses a permanent method (solder paste) with their heatspreaders. Others just use some El Crapo -thermal (insulate) tapes.

Anyhow, why is this thread in XtremeSystems Forums > Cooling > Liquid Cooling?

Well I figure out that , people that lc their rams have to remove their spreaders , so I assumed it was the right place to ask since Im going to lc the ram .
