I'm having a bit of a tough time putting together a list of water parts. It will be the first water setup I've used, so I've been doing a fair bit of reading. Still, I haven't asked any questions yet. Hoping some of you can help me right now :). My build is going to look something much like this (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=210245) and will be going in a V1010--hopefully.

I suppose my main questions are (1) will this work, (2) what can I do better, (3) what's a good GTX 280 waterblock that isn't going to rape my wallet sideways, (4) and how will the radiator (assuming triple) fit in the top of a slightly modded v1010?

I'll probably think of other questions in about 10 minutes...

Edit: Yup, I thought of something. See the attached image for a better description of what I'm thinking. I had initially supposed I would run the loop from my radiator -> res -> pump -> CPU -> GPU. Then I realized that might be difficult with the setup I had imagined (see picture). Is it fine to start with the GPU then go to the CPU waterblock second? I guess the water won't be as cool, but it might be awkward to set up otherwise.

1. Yes it will work
2. You can route you loop however you want, but keep your res before your pump. It's fine to go gpu then cpu, the water temps won't be hurt that much.
3. I'm no expert with the case, but you could probably just cut out holes or the fans and mount the rad up there.

Don't see why you can't go res >> pump >> radiator >> CPU >> GPU. Any reason you think this won't work? Ultimately, you can set the loop up whichever works best for your tubing routing, but the most common practice is as stated.

The D-Tek Fusion is fine, but the Swiftech Apogee GTZ is one of the hot blocks at the moment. It is very easy to install ... and can be removed and re-installed without removing your motherboard from the case. Just a thought.

Another option to consider is the MCP355 pump + XSPC reservoir top, assuming there is room for it where you're showing the D5 pump. Not necessarily lots better, but easy to setup and minimizes tubing as well.

If you've already purchased your parts ... no problem, just giving you some alternatives to think about.

+1 for the GTZ :) It also self locks so you can't over tighten :)

I haven't purchased my parts yet. Tomorrow I'm going to buy the case and I'm thinking about buying the PSU and water parts at the same time. That will give me something to work with over Christmas break, and I'll be able to get things more or less set up for when my components arrive.

Never done a water setup before, so I don't have any particular reasons for thinking my tentative plans wouldn't work. I'm just asking in case there's something I'm really missing.

Would this (http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=21465) be a better radiator than the PA120.3? I've read that with high CFM fans it would be, and it's a tad smaller too. For the lazy ones among us, that's HW Lab's Black Ice GTX 360.

Edit: Two votes for the GTZ. Aside from being easier to use, how is it's performance compared to the Fuzion V2?

The GTZ is one of the top rated CPU Water Blocks.

You might be better off going with a thinner radiator, but I don't have any experience with that case ... I'm partial to the Swiftech MCR320. Have you researched other V1010 builds to see what type of radiators folks are using?

The v1010 is quite hard to find. I've been looking around but there's practically nothing. The MCR320 is a slightly slimmer radiator than the other two, you say? I'll take a look at that.

Are there any problems with setting up a resevoir, CPU waterblock and GPU waterblock of different metals?

I'm not sure the MCR320 is thinner than the Black Ice, but it definitely is not as thick as the PA120.3.

the radiator is gonna go over your motherboard at the top and once you add fans you might run into even more issues...

I suggest using an mcr320 instead and you will be 100% ok with very small difference between it and the PA120.3

Sorry, I meant that it's difficult to find v1010's in use with water. I guess they just aren't very popular cases.

MCR320 is 3.4 cm thin and the Black Ice is 5.57, so the former is definitely thinner. It's slightly longer but that's probably not an issue. I don't suppose there's a significant performance gap between the two?

And, if you don't mind, at what point would it be worth adding a second pump or second radiator to the loop, if at all?

Edit: Thanks SD. What's a good waterblock for the GTX 260? I'll be going with the core 216, but I don't think there's any difference in waterblocks. I could be wrong though.

different metals (ie. copper + aluminum) = corrosion.
there are quite a few thread on mixing metal, and it doesn't seem to be welcomed on this forum :rofl:

the DD tieton is an excellent block with no known issues like the EK 280/260 block

also the mcr-320 outperfoms the Blackice rad

yes just use all copper waterblocks and the mcr 320 and you will be A-OK

Good, now just to clarify something about the DD Tieton: the RAM plates are nickel, but the rest of it is copper, yes?

nickel plating doesn't react with copper so no worries :)
