" Details are in, Nokia has a new flagship phone. The N97 packs a 3.5-inch, 640 x 360 pixel (that's a 16:9 aspect ratio) resistive touchscreen display with tactile feedback and QWERTY keyboard into this sliding communicator with an "always open" window to favorite internet or social networking sites. Nokia calls it the "world's most advanced mobile computer." To back up the claim they've dropped in HSDPA, WiFi, and Bluetooth radios, A-GPS, a 3.5-mm headjack, 32GB of onboard memory with microSD expansion (for up to 48GB total capacity), and a battery capable of up to 1.5 days of continuous audio playback or 4.5-hours video. 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss glass and "DVD quality" video capture at 30fps, too. Don't forget the juicy 1500mAh battery, which Nokia claims will last up to 16 days on standby, or provide 37 hours of continuous music playback or four and a half hours of video. The specs are certainly impressive, let's see if the S60 5th Edition OS can support it. The N97 will launch with a retail price set at around €550 ($693) excluding subsidies and taxes, phone to ship in H1 2009. "

+1 the N96 didn't seem to cut it and I was thinking of going with a windows system but this looks the business. I'll hold off on the upgrade.

Too late. iPhone has been out for 2 years, they missed many customers like that. Still, knowing Nokia, they're going to do a good job selling it.

If it were to come out before Christmas I'd buy it, I don't feel the need to buy a new phone around spring time.

Exactly! I <3 my N95 8GB, but wow!

If it's on Orange I'll get a £40 discount on the contact, and if it's not free w/ contact (which I doubt it would be), I can use my 30% staff discount too.

This is looking too good to be true!

Yer I like Sony Ericsson, batteries are far more duable, and while most of the phones arn't as fancy or as fast, they dont play up... If I had a N95 though would definatly upgrade to the N97.

Why would you need so many MPs? Remember guys, phone is NEVER gonna make good photos, even some point'n'shoot is gonna make better photos, but maybe in lower resolution.
And btw, it looks like HTC TyTn II/Kaiser II or whatever it's called.
Nokia failed again.

Yup. I used to care about megapixels, then I realized that I never take pictures with my phone and that my phone will never be a camera anyways. I got a Blackberry Bold for Christmas and I've never been more pleased.

I agree with your opinion, however lately I use my camera on my phone more and more, sure they will never be good like a proper camera, but im always out and theres something funny to take a photo of, or im at work and finished a massive job and think, hell I'd like a photo of that.

Therefore, I'm begining to think it would be nice to have a decent camera on a phone... Not huge megapixels or super quality, just enough to take said photos.

Well, i was never a fan of taking pictures, so i told myself i'd start taking pics whether i like it or not when i bought my 5mp phone.

Does anyone know if the N97 is gonna have a headphone jack? I have a 20gb Ipod right now, and if I could just move the songs over to the phone, I'd be set. Seeing as how my SLVR is reaching the end of its days (and it no longer connects to the computer), my parents have agreed that I can upgrade my phone this summer. It is currently N97 vs HTC S740.

Yea, it does kinda look like a headphone jack. For some reason it just looks too big to be a headphone jack, but it might just be my eyes messing with me.

it'll be a 3.5mm jack ;) - the N95 had one :)

i had one of these to play with last week on vodafone (UK) it was horribly slow, and kept crashing, its like there isnt enough memory on the thing.... i found they keypad very hard to type with, and didnt get along with the touch screen, its not as good as others on the market, 9 times out of 10 the accelerometer didnt work.... very disapointing, it looked like it was going to be promising, but a very big let down :shakes:

However, when the internet did work, it was reasonably fast, the browser isnt as intuitive as those on the iphone, and blackberry phones, but none the less, its still good. I like the sliding action of the keyboard, and was impressed at the build quality, although i found it hard to type on, i think with time it could be as good as the keypads BB's and the Google phone. The camera is reasonable.... its a phone camera, you cant expect it to take DSLR quality photo's. but as a quick P&S its good quality!

Keep your N95's, they are amazing compared to this.....i wouldnt have one even if u gave it to me, since the trail of the N97 i have received a blackberry bold, and am extremely happy with it, i wont be changing this phone.

This is just my personal experience with this phone, but i hope it has helped with your decisions a little.

Had mine for 3 weeks now, (vodafone UK) very happy with it, worlds ahead of the 95&96 which i got a great price for by the way on one of those cash-for-phones websites, recommend checking those out. 97 is very responsive, huge resolution, great video playback, unbeatable web browsing, extremely fast connection, and the magnetometer enabled maps app is just a dream to use, phone hasn't crashed a single time though i've only had it for a few weeks. The pressure sensitive touch screen is essential for using a stylus (just the back of my pen most of the time) as having to use your fingers for the iphone is just terrible for me. The keyboard is *not* flush, like i read on quite a few reviews citing it as a negative, the buttons have profile and though it takes time to get used to using the space bar key and typing at full speed it's more than worth it once you are able to - probably easier for most but i have big hands so took more time to adjust.

Highly recommended!
