AMD sent out a newsletter to its channel partners today confirming the price cuts it predicted when it last adjusted prices at the end of August.

The cuts will be effective as of the start of December but the new prices weren't published in the newsletter.

This is no hindrance for HEXUS.channel, however, as it gives us an excuse to pick up the phone to Raj Suman, product marketing director at giant distie Avnet, to get the word on the street.

Asked what he thought the significance of the move was, Suman said: "This strengthens AMD's position in the mid market as it enables it to offer even better bang4buck."

The prices below represent approximate street prices from Suman in the context of the volume sales with which he operates.

damn thats cheap!
i wonder why they still have so many SKUs, with a price difference of only 10$ between the cpus it doesnt really make sense...
like who would buy a 9850BE instead of a the 9950BE if the price difference is 10$? :D

So if we were to extrapolate on these prices to guess what the prices for Phenom II would be then a Phenom II 920 would be just under $200 and a 940 around $220-$240. Just my guess, but seems reasonable to me. Would make it good value for the money and they wont have to compete with Core i7 this way which would be a lost battle for AMD anyway. All speculation of course, but I don't think I'm far off with my predictions.

There's also the Phenom X4 810/805, 910, X3 720, 710 and Athlon X4.

So no.

Any drop in price is good in my eyes. I wish Intel would learn something

Deneb better be something special with higher prices (although bad for the consumer, you know they need the money) or else amd is going down the drain at this rate. a 9950 be for $175 is a STEAL, too bad any phenom II or intel quad will offer you much more for your money

Intel has been doing a lot of price cuts lately. They have been doing what AMD is doing now, cutting prices on old SKU's for new ones.

And AMD needs to hit the P2 perfectly at launch, they can't afford to mess another one up.

Exactly. There is a whole line-up of "sub Deneb" parts(a la propus,X3s etc.) that will fill in the gap made by these Agena price cuts.
