I'm taking apart my loop so I can put it in a new case with new coolant, but I was wondering what's the best way to clean my Swiftech MCP-655 (Laing D5 Vario). I was thinking of connecting a reservoir to the pump and letting it sit there running a mixture of distilled water and vinegar for awhile.

Is there a way of cleaning the pump without taking apart the pump?

Well, if you want to make the outside shiny!
Seriously, all you do is twist the big ring it comes right apart. You should open it. It's easy. If you installed a WC setup, your plenty capable.

So, I take it apart, scrub the cavity where the impeller is housed, scrub the impeller, and then scrub the attachment that has the nozzles?

Lol, in whatever order you like. It's going to make sense when it's opened up.

May I ask why you are attempting to clean it? If you're just trying to get the dye or coolant color from your previous loop out...just run distilled through it for 30 minutes, drain, refill with distilled, run for 30 mins and repeat until the drained water is back to clear.

That was my initial plan. I was planning to connect a reservoir to the pump and let it cycle the distilled water around, take that loop apart, and install my CPU loop with the D5 in the new case with new coolant.

Taking the pump apart is a 45 second operation. It is very easy.

Well, guess I'm gonna have to go with taking the pump apart. Dish soap is fine for cleaning the pump, right?

Just make sure you rinse it all out when you're done. Use an old toothbrush or something.

Dish soap is fine, ketchup is okay, toothpaste, vinegar in a 50% solution, dawn soap, it don't really matter. A quick scrub with a toothbrush is fine, mainly your inspecting for gunk and being curious and learning. I rebuild my poos x2 a year, I tear it all down once to inspect, the other time I drain and refill x2 just to keep my liquid Bounty fresh smelling.....

Yes, and rinse well under the sink, then put 'er together and be proud! You did it!
