And they're making some other good changes too. This should be good news to those AMD fans who enjoy high end computing at a lower cost.

The story was first broke HERE (http://www.amdmb.com/index.php#News-4792) at AMDMB.

And, better yet, confirmed HERE (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=4713) at the Inq Well.

I'm not sure if this will allow the K7 to surpass the P4 again (that would be a stretch perhaps), but it may certainly allow it to hang much closer. I hope all of this comes to market soon...the idea of coughing up $600 for a Top-o-the-line Intel CPU makes me ill.

Sounds fantastic! What I wonder now is it a new Thoroughbred stepping or Barton? Personally, I hope it is Barton they are talking about. ;)

thank you bosw8er... just take a look at the results... the amd will need more than a 166 fsb to get over the p4...
it needs only one thing... it needs HIGHER CLOCKSPEEDS...

yes this was posted over at overclcokers australia aswell....it looks like AMD in finally going to up the FSB to 166mhz...
well 1/5 divider support is out...AMD should make use of this
also the EV6 bus has support for up2 250Mhz...so 166mhz shouldent be too much.

What they need to do is put 512KB cache on it. :)

512k L2 wont help that much, i mean of course you will see an improvement in speed, but what AMD really need to focus on now is clock speed, ok the PR ratings look sweet but actual clock speed is a problem. AMD should already be at 2.2Ghz+...they are falling more and more behind :(
