I'm hoping to find a suitable (VERY CHEAP) notebook this holiday season... in the $200-$300 range... obviously not anything close to desktop replacement, but something really cheap, light, and portable.
Right now the only thing I see remotely close to my budget is the:
Acer Aspire AS5520-5908
but that's $399...

If there isn't any alternative, I'll get the ASUS EEE PC 4G surf and clock the Celly Mobile up to 900MHz or the ASUS EEE PC 900A and OC the atom.

Well, I guess even an integrated chipset would be good enough if it has enough oomph... what's a good equivalent of the Intel GMA 950 or X3100 in terms of desktop graphics so I can get a sense of the performance.

Another Bump?
I guess the whole Intel Graphics thing is a bit of a black hole around here ;)

However, I would like to know the difference between the 1.6GHz Atom and the Celeron 353... which the main difference between the EEE PC 700 and EEE PC 900A...
Which would you guys recommend, as the 4G Surf which has the Celeron 353 and a 7" screen is $299 while the 900A has the 1.6GHz Atom 270 and an 8.9" screen.
I plan to upgrade whichever I get with 2GB of RAM ($22).

look for a via open book based laptop they have a faster cpu than the atom, and an s3 gpu

u can upgrade it to windows and 2GB of ram if u wanted and it can use 2 pc express cards one full and one half for upgrade ability, the via c7 also has 3 scaler units and is faster thread for thread clock for clock than the atom and can decode full 1080p video with the s3 chip or the cpu

I've heard that the C7-M is hideously anemic even when compared to the Atom... are you referring the to recently released VIA Nano?

The one you linked? I thought that was a C7-M.
