View Full Version : Using larger fans on the HAF 932

I want to order some 250mm fans for my HAF 932 (side and top), or even a some 360mm fans if they'll fit.

Has anyone tried using larger fans with this case, and if so, how did it work out?

Stated dimensions are (W)9.0" X (H)21.5" X (D)22.7" so I don't think you will have space to put a 250 up top.

As for the side, you could go as big as the door will allow, so a 250 or 360 should fit if you are willing to do the mods required. You might have some interference with your drives or other internals with a 360 though.

But since the case comes with three 230's (top, front, & side) and a 140 in the rear, I'm having some trouble seeing exactly why you want to do it. Unless it's just for the bling factor, in which case I think you should go for it.

The reason why I want to get bigger fans is because even though the 230mm fans are large, their output isn't that high (75 CFM).

The side fan mount appears as if it can handle a much larger fan, but I wanted to make sure before I ordered. As for the top, I think you're right. It's not wide enough to accomodate a 250mm fan unfortunately.

So I guess the side mount is my best bet. I'm hoping I won't have to drill any holes, because I don't have a drill on hand LOL :D

the side can mount a 230mm fan, or 4x120mm fans, those are the extra holes you see.

You can not mount any other size fans without doing some modding.

Personally the fans are good, and a great balance between noise and airflow, I have a controller so I do wish perhaps they were higher airflow, but I'm not certain it would noticeably improve temps.

It's good thing you told me this..

I guess I'll just have to order some 120mm fans instead.

If you took every fan OEM fan out and replaced them 120's, you can fit 10x 120mm fans in there. Now multiply that by 70CFM Yate mediums and you're looking at an insane 700CFM.

BTW: CM rates those fans at 700rpm/110CFM/19db. Not sure just how close those are to the actual numbers but that's what the specs say.

I just checked those figures, and they seem to come from Coolermaster's website.

A review I read ( this one to be specific (http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/coolermaster_haf_932/)) stated that the CFM was 75.

The one with the finger guard is installed on the side, and the smaller one at the rear. Each 230mm fan draws 0.4A and is rated at 75 CFM, 19dBa. The smaller one needs 0.14A for producing 57 CFM for 17dBa.

I'm more inclined to believe OCclub, as the fans don't seem to generate 110 CFM.

yea its not 110cfm, nor is it 19db

realistically the 75cfm sounds right, and possibly 21-23db

Don't bother getting bigger fans. Firsly you would have to mod the hell out of the case. Get 120mm on the side and on the top and then mount the 230mm fans so that they are inside the case. I can give you pics if you want. The top is also great for water cooling. I have a 2x120mm radiator in the top and its great. 110 cfm per min fans or so they say. It more like 78 cfm but 4 of those on the side of your case is great. They are like 35 dba what many people say are to loud but for me it is not.:shakes::shakes:

Yeah, could you post those pics?

The fans I'm planning on getting have a CFM output of 78. I want to get 4 of them for the side, and 3 for the top.

BTW, the specs say you can mount 3 120mm fans on top, but after eye balling it, it doesn't seem feasible.

They will all fit up there, one is just halfway under the top front cover. There's a vent that vents the air from the front most fan. I have a 120.3 rad in the top of mine.

Removed the side and top 230mm fans and installed 6 120mm fans (4 on the side and 2 on top) in my HAF 932 case.. The fans have red LEDs as well, which makes the HAF look even cooler :D

The result? A 2 degree drop in idle temps, and a 5 degree drop in load temperature..

Before, my video card was idling at 44 and maxing out 71 degrees celsius (ATItool to produce load temps) Now it's idling at 42 and maxing out at 66.

The price? Now my computer is much louder of course, but since I usually have my headphones on at my computer, it's not a big deal.

I just built a new rig using HAF. I'm impressed with it. The fans are pretty quiet - not 19db, but yeah pretty quiet. I did buy a scythe 140 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185080), which I may put in place of the rear fan to try it out. I am looking for a high quality fan controller - maybe with 4 pots - anyone got a suggestion or experience with a good one?

The best fan controller for the $$ is without a doubt the Sunbeam 4 Channel (http://www.jab-tech.com/Sunbeam-5-1-4-Rheobus-Kit-BLACK-pr-2530.html). Each channel could probably run all the OEM fans.

I will try in the near future.

Yes 3 do fit on the top. But you have to remove the front panel thingy. I have a triple radiator with 3 fans.
What really nice is you can remove just about everything if you now where the screws are.
I can show you some pics of how to remove most of the stuff.
