I ordered all the parts on 14/11/08 and they should be here on Wednesday, 19/11/08. I will probably take some pics of hardware on Wed but I doubt I will have time to start work until the weekend.

Please if anybody has any suggestions / ideas / examples that could help me with this build post them!

At the moment my biggest problem is where to put the pumps, any suggestions? I was toying with the idea of doing something like the following, what do you guys recon?

PIC1 (http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/8586/pumpstatt0.jpg)
PIC2 (http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/6789/mg5024ho7.jpg)
PIC3 (http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/7910/drivestandmodub8.jpg)
PIC4 (http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/1904/frontpanelmodfp0.jpg)

I have never used a TJ07 before and I am not quite sure how one would go about mounting the radiators in the bottom section? I have the HDD adaptors so I can use the whole of the space.

THANKS FOR LOOKING!

UPDATES:

15/11/08

1) I have now changed the Tygon 1/2" (http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=38_89&products_id=660) hose for XSPC (http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=38_89&products_id=1118) of the same size, because the XSPC (http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=38_89&products_id=1118) is black and much cheaper.

18/11/08

1) I have cancelled my watercooling order because there were too many changed I had to make and they will not allow one to make any modifications to an order where a voucher code has been used! Now I am in the process of waiting for confirmation from them and then I place another order when my full refund comes through.

2) I will no longer be using an AC Couplex waterblock for the CPU, some of you may have noticed that EK have brought out a 1366 adapter (http://ekwaterblocks.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=320&osCsid=0fda353f9b04c579561d79aba66fbc1e)for their Supreme blocks. That is what I am going to be using instead because I already have one. Its not in tip-top condition but needs need a bit of lapping of which I will post some pics when I get round to doing it.

23/11/08

1) I Changed the ASUS RAMPAGE II (http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=907383) x58 to an ASUS P6T Deluxe OC PALM x58 (http://specialtech.co.uk/spshop/customer/product.php?productid=7314&cat=0&page=1) (anyone buying a P6T they are £50 cheaper at specialtech than overclockers and other retailers!)

2) I Changed the GPU block from an EK-FC4870 X2 (http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=27_78&products_id=1130) to an XSPC Razor (http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1137) 4870x2 full cover block.

2) I Changed the coolant from Feser One UV Black (http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=561) to Feser VSC (http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=696).

3) Mobo should arrive tomorrow, I will have it on air until I can get my case internals powder coated.

25/01/09

1) Gone back to the Rampage II Extreme

2) Changed the 4870x2 for a GTX 295

3) Using the triple loop for the CPU due to a leak.

4) Going to be watercooling the NB with EK waterblock.

5) Scrapping foam pads to support the pumps, going to be drilling some holes and using screws.

Awesome another TJ07 build - love this case!!

I just recently finished a dual loop TJ07 build using the same rads and pump/res combo as what you have listed above. I mounted both of my pumps on the mid plate inbetween the mb and the drive bay uprights - like this:

Click on the pic in my sig for the full worklog and more pics!

Good luck and looking forward to some pics

LOL, thats so wierd I just changed my Tygon hose for a black XSPC one (http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=38_89&products_id=1118). Then I see your beautiful rig to convince myself that I did the right thing! :D

@dangals

1) how did you do the rads?
2) Your cabling looks awsome, did you have to make any holes in the mobo plate?

There are a lot of great TJ07 builds here. TurtleTrax did two rads like you and Dangals have. He has a nice build log here too.

Do you plan on sleeving your cables?

Thanks mate

1) the rads are arranged in 120.2 > fan > 120.3 > fan with the barbs located at opposite ends. The 120.3 barbs are located at the very front of the case while the 120.2 are towards the middle. I had to use some 90 degree fittings in order to get both rads in the bottom. But considering there is not much restriction combined with one of the best performing pump/top combos I was not worried about the fact that each loop had 2 x 90 fittings.

2) a couple of holes in the mobo tray as well as one in the midplate

@BlueAqua: Cheers, I didnt think I would have to since I already have sleeving on the cables from Coolermaster.

@Dangals: THANKS MAN! Reading your log now and wishing I had orderd some of those fittings. I suppose they can always add them to my previous order if they havent sent it yet. Is it somthing like this (http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=832) that I need?

You dont happen to have a measured plan of the holes you did on the mobo back plate do you? I will get to work making the holes tomorrow with a dremel but without a board to measure up against i dont want to get it wrong! :)

In regards to the sleeving - generally most sleeving that comes on PSU cables as standard is really low quality stuff and they tend to sleeve them in a bunch as opposed to individually which is what BA was referring to. If you are thinking about sleeving then definately check out the MurderMod (http://store.murdermod.com/murderware/sleeving-kits/murdermod-mdpc-x-psychopack.htm) sleeving as there is simply no better sleeving out there!

As for the fittings the ones I used are these Koolance (http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=203&products_id=22687) ones. I also had to use some 3/8 to 1/4" adapters for the ThermoChill rads aswell.

What I did for cutting the holes in the mobo tray was work out where the edges of the mb was going to be and then cut the holes a little to the inside of that so that way nothing would show once the mobo was fitted. You can get an idea from the pic i posted where you can see the screws to fit the mobo sticking out of the mobo tray. Just remember to measure 2-3 times before cutting

Your power supply comes factory sleeved, but by it's all about personal preference. If you're satisfied with it then that's all that matters. If you want to put in extra effort for the best finish then you'll want to do some additional sleeving. It's all up to you.

Question...

Did you order the low voltage version of that RAM? Intel has a spec that you should be below 1.65v vDimm.

tcorbyn
11-16-2008, 05:25 AM
@T_Flight: The ram is 1.65v HERE (http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=909755&Product=6GB+(3x2GB)+Corsair+XMS3+DDR3%2c+PC3-12800+(1600MHz)%2c+240+Pin%2c+Non-ECC+Unbuffered%2c+CAS+9-9-9-24#ProductFeatures) is the website so you can have a look :)

@Dangals & BlueAqua: You have convinced me that sleeving the PSU myself is the way forward! :D The only things is (I do not mean ANY disrespect to your beautiful rig by this Dangals) I would not have braided each cable individually I prefer one big thick cable, but hey thats just me! Im going to have a read of Dangals' guide and get back to you guys if I run into any problems.

@Dangals: I likd the elbow fittings you used but I cant see anything like that on watercoolinguk where I have been ordering everything for this build. I sent an email to them last night to add four of these (http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=39_53&products_id=832) to my order before they send it tomorrow. Is that what I need? Why did you get 3/8" - 1/2"? Dont the thermochill rads come with 1/4" BSPP?

http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/6852/swrotary1mqg2.jpg

I am going to try and measure up the mobo tray today and take some picys if I do manage to cut it. I wonder if there is a way to work it out by looking at a hi res pic of the rampage II :S How did you cut yours? Did you use a dremel, if so what bit?

EDIT: Dangals one more thing, do you use the triple rad for the GPU and the double for your CPU or the other way around?

No the Thermochill rads come with 3/8"BSPP threads and not 1/4" (it was a typo of mine when I said 1/2") so you may need some adapters like these (http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=39_53&products_id=1096)

I used a dremel with the standard cutting bit - then file down the edges before fitting the gromits.

Yes in my build the 120.3 is on the GPU and the 120.2 is on the cpu / nb combo

tcorbyn
11-16-2008, 02:07 PM
Thanks dangs!

I will buy those adapters (watercoolinguk must be getting abit annoyed with me by now with my endless changing of my order, but who cares!). So its going to go:

RAD (http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=37_73&products_id=723) --> ADAPTER (http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=39_53&products_id=1096) --> ELBOW (http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=39_53&products_id=832) --> FITTING (http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=39_53&products_id=975)--> HOSE (http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=38_89&products_id=1118)

Surely so many adaptors and super restrictive block would kill the flow rate? Is there any way a 1/2" ID hose would fit in one of these (http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=39_65&products_id=801), a 10/8mm fitting? That saves me using the adapter but I still gotta use the elbow so maybe not...

I have a pair of DDC's mounted in the basement of my TJ07 as shown below. I am using a the Feser Quad Rad as well. Here is a pic of how I have the pumps mounted. I am just doing some leak testing in this pic.

edit:

Here is another pic of my first solution using the EK dual pump block. It was very noisy and I wasn't happy with it so I switched to the config above.

Cooling everything in my sig. My first Fesser rad and it exceeded my expectations. I can't really compare it to my old set up where I used a PA120.2 and 120.3 because I'm not done with the build yet.

Thanks Chicken. Yep, those are the acrylic tops.

Nah, I take your word for it. i just wanted to be sure you knew about that. There are two different types of XMS is why I wanted to be sure you knew about that. Some are just using the older ones, but some people are not comfortable with that. At this point until we know more I think it's better to go with the lower votlage stuff and clock it up. Personally I'm a little mroe comfortable going with the lower voltage stuff and stiocking to the Intel spec. I've seen the Dominators in my sig at over 2000 already. I'm really trying to locate that kit.

The boxes are made by Hammond. All credit for the idea goes to Charles of MurderMods. Here (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=3025538&postcount=40) is a link to the post where he details the use of the boxes. I'm sure you will be able to find some near you.

For me, the more I can avoid power tools the less chance I have of making a mistake, so I used Velcro to secure the rad. :) I used double stick tape to secure the rad boxes to the case. In short, it makes for a very secure mounting.

LOL I picked these up a few weeks ago at my local Source/Radio Shack for my upcoming build not even knowing that Charles used them in his build haha. I saw them & thought they'd come in handy so i grabbed a couple diff sizes. All they are is basic project boxes really. nexXtech puts these ones out . Couple pics so you can see them close to what charles has used there.

Ok now that I have had to cancell my order with watercoolingUK and Scan still havent got the rampage in stock Ive got time to work on the stuff that I do have and do a little more planning... Im gunna ask around to see if I can get the TJ07 internals painted black. Annother thing is that Im gunna clean out my old equiptment tonight with Sysclean following this guide (http://www.custompc.co.uk/howtos/walkthru/601551/clean-a-water-cooling-loop/page1.html).

Most importantly I need to deicie on a colour scheme for this build, I can change anythig, coolant, hose etc but not fans, pumps or rads.

You can't go wrong following Dangals' lead. His build is impressive. :)

Since you can't get the RE2 have you thought about the Gigabyte EX58-EXTREME? I'll admit I'm an Asus fanboy BUT, I think I might have to give the Gigabyte board a shot when I make the move to the i7 platform.

You can't go wrong either way. Looking forward to your results as your hardware choices lead me to believe your build is going to be be a good one.

Minor Update:

On the mobo ive gone for the asus p6t deluxe. Ive always liked ASUS but the rampage is a bit pricy for watercooling and better suited for somthing like Ln2 which I will NOT be doing on my own expensive mobo!

I can finally say that the CPU and Memory is arriving today! :D:D:D

However, they are going to be pretty useless for me until the mobo arrives next week. :(

Along with the mobo I am expecting the watercooling stuff, I orderd them both from different sites, now lets see who's quicker!

I orderd late Thursday night so hopefuly they will be here on Saturday or monday.

1) I Changed the ASUS RAMPAGE II x58 to an ASUS P6T Deluxe OC PALM x58 (anyone buying a P6T they are £50 cheaper at Specialtech.co.uk than Overclockers.co.uk and other retailers!)

2) I Changed the GPU block from an EK-FC4870 X2 to an XSPC Razor 4870x2 full cover block.

3) I changed the coolant from Feser One UV Black to Feser VSC, 1L for each loop.

4) Mobo should arrive tomorrow, I will have it on air until I can get my case internals powder coated.

The mobo and remaining watercooling parts arrived today :D:D:D

The P6T Deluxe mobo, I originally opted for the Rampage but decided that it was a bit too expensive for what I was going to be using it for, since Im not going to be Ln2 benching or anything was a bit of a waste of money.

http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/5377/cimg2418hn2.jpg

Here is the system not so beautifully set up, but fast as lightning and awaiting the case to be painted. Sinice I have blown the budget a long time ago I am taking it to a friend tomorrow who paints bikes and will hopefully be able to paint the internalls.

http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/3605/cimg2472gp9.jpg

Here is all my w/c eqiptment, I would like to take the time to thank everybody who has helped me pick out these parts and get the best possible config.

http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/6712/cimg2444cd3.jpg

I changed my mind after having read somwhere that Feser VSC is much better than regular Feser One.

The XSPC Razor 4870x2 block is quite a bit cheaper than alturnative ones and I could see no major differences.

http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/2826/cimg2446pq9.jpg

Special thanks to Eddy @ EK for this one, the CPU block is my old EK Supreme with the new 1366 mounting plate direct from EK for only a couple of quid!

There is my batterd old Thermochill PA120.3 next to a nice and new double version.

In my opinion the best pump/res combo arround! My previous one broke but it was MY FAULT so I was more than happy to buy the same one again. Also you will see I have the mounting kit wich should be very useful.

Here I am trying to show how the fittings will go on the rads (sorry for the bad pic)

3/8" BSPP to 1/4" BSPP ---> "L" Bend ---> Compression fitting

Just a little explanation of what each of the fittings are.

That P6T should serve you well. I'm looking forward to the build. What color are you going to paint the interior? It might look sweet in a candy apple red?

How are you temps with the stock cooler? I

Thanks guys, the internals are going to be black (sorry to bore you all!) The stock cooler is actually not too bad i have managed to get it up to 4Ghz without even changing so much as the thermal paste!! :D Temps hovering between 50c - 60c.

Does anyone know a good way of cleaning the outside of my old radiator? It looks in pretty bad nick because when I clean it with orginarty water it leves white marks.

I have the mobo plate ready for cutting, here is the pic. What do you guys think? Does that look right? I just did a straight line around the mobo and marked extra where the 24pin power socket and sata ports are.

OK, I got. Take a look at what Dangals did here (http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/parts1.jpg). Note the hole for the 24 pin connector and the two round holes for video and miscellaneous cables.

Check out the rectangular hole on the bottom plate. For clean cable routing that one is a must. I would check out evil's thread as well. He also did a good job with his build and cables.

Here are some other good examples in this thread (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=203951).

Here is my (pre-sleeved) example.

Powder Coating Update:

-Ive got a quote for £45 on the powder coating from North London Coatings (http://northlondoncoatings.co.uk/index.html). I dont know anything about power coating but would they do a good finish looking at their equipt? The other stuff theyve done in the gallary looks pretty neat...

-Now Ive found somwhere a bit closer to me who have just quoted me £20 for all the internals, I am probably going to take it tomorrow and Ill let you guys know how it turns out!

I got all the case internals back from the powder coating place and Ive got to say they came out wonderfully! :)

http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/2804/cimg2524ez4.jpg

Heres all the stuff I got powder coated. It was really cheap and really well done. I explained to the man that holes were for screws and had to be exact so he "plugged" them and every screw fits perfectly without a single patch of silver left! Plus its was only £40, less than anywhere else I could find and half of what most places were offering.

http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/6259/cimg2526yt3.jpg

http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/6651/cimg2547ey6.jpg

http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/5979/cimg2529wp6.jpg

Its impossible to show how great the finish is in a picture but you get an idea.

http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/5296/cimg2533ct5.jpg

I decided to get the pumps out and have a play around with where I could mount them. The bit underneith it is a Laing DDC mounting block from wcuk.

http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/5924/cimg2534sh4.jpg

Both blocks wouldnt fit in the place I wanted to put them so I had to slice about a 1mm piece from one of them. I am quite glad with the way it came out, (not that im a hardcore modder or anything). Even if i say so myself! :D

http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/5492/cimg2538tb1.jpg

This is where I wanted to mount them (kinda like dangals I know!).

http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/7189/cimg2539rv9.jpg

My next problem was to find a way of mounting the mounting blocks. Drilling holes is out of the question for fear of ruining the powder coat job and there are two massive holes there anyway. So I went for this foam that came with the pumps.

http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/7374/cimg2546fi5.jpg

@ Shazza: I dont think the pump is hot enough to heat up the whole mounting block (that thing is like a damm heatsink) and the foam aswell so it should be ok. The most important thing for me is that they a firm and dont move about a lot.

@ j.almonte: I went on evils advice and matte finish.

This thread has been on hold for a VEEEERY long time and now I should be having some time off school to work on this build...

Fist of all the list of changes I’ve made or going to make:

1) Two of the P6T mobos died on me (in a row!) so I’ve gone back to my original idea of a RAMPAGE and I am extremely happy with decision.

2) The 4870x2 has been changed for a GTX 295 which should be arriving on Wednesday/Thursday, I have always been a fan of NV and the X2 also died on me.

3) Leaking radiator, MY FAULT, I sent the double rad to RMA because it was leaking like crazy and there was a small pond at the bottom of my case. The guys at thermochill told me that a screw not suitable for that kind of radiator had been used. They said they would fix the hole no problem and leave the rad as good as new. So now I am using the triple rad for the CPU.

4) I am going to be adding in a NB/SB waterblock to the current CPU loop. The block I am going to be using is the EK NB/SB full cover waterblock (http://www.specialtech.co.uk/spshop/customer/product.php?productid=7666).

5) No longer using foam pads. I plan to scrap the foam pads because they move around too much and can’t hold the pump straight. I’m going to have to take the whole thing apart and drill holes for mounting blocks.

tcorbyn
01-25-2009, 01:56 PM
Cheers the RMAs are pretty much sorted I have everything appart from the graphics card, which is probably the most annoying because it means I have all of this stuff and I cant play a single game! But at the same time its given me loads of time to get to know the BIOS (which is a hell of a job with the REII) and have the overclock just right so my system is perfect for when the card arrives!

Change of plan it turns out now Im going to be waiting for the GTX295 to be shipped from Canada! :S Does anyone know how long that might take/cost?

Cheers!

Wow. im amazed. Ive recently just atarted a TJ-07 build and ive gone for a similar sort of layout. Ill be going with a Triple rad in the bottom and a Triple rad in the top. Ive even chosen to buy those exact same fans. They look nice and are going to be silent or atleast thats what im hoping. Maybe you can give your opinion on them ?

What are the fans like ? They are sleeve bearing so i was wondering if they had any grinding noises and how they react when put on a radiator.

Hi guys.... sorry it’s been so long with no updates one of the rads had a leak and only arrived yesterday! Due to the rampage being slightly bigger the first thing I’m going to do is extend the holes i made in the mobo back plate.

@ nellydude88: In the bottom chamber both rads fit pretty easily, the double rad goes adjacent to the PSU and the triple directly opposite. I’ve held them down with velcro and its pretty solid.

@ Scubar: There is a reason I bought so many of those fans! They are THE BOMB! During my work placement last year at Custom PC they were doing the "Dream PCs" labs test and the winner was Scan with their "Great White". When the guys came to deliver it all the fans were branded as Scan when I asked one of the builders it turns out they were just rebranded revoltecs! It will be cool to see what the dream PCs are like this year with Core i7 on the loose. Have a look at the great white here:
