Hi,

Welcome to my work log - before I get started, I want to point out that I'm only going to post the pictures in this post so you don't have to go right through the whole thread to find them.

Anyway this is my first attempt at liquid cooling and I thought I'd give it a go because my existing PC (http://s271.photobucket.com/albums/jj121/Player1_WP/Pre-Liquid%20Cooling/?albumview=slideshow) is loud as! I started collecting parts in July but only started working on it since the beginning of November. It's been a big expensive learning curve that's starting to get out of control, been lots of fun putting it together though!

Got some EK blocks on the way, should be here next week.
I need to get this done soon aye cause it gets stupidly hot in our shed during summer.

SB and MOSFETs too? Wow, overkill much :p: There's no compelling reason at all to WC a SB, and very little reason at all to WC MOSFETs, but hey, it looks good. How're components being split up between that 480 and the 320?

dear god ! that look awesome :D

great build ! really looking for the final setup, absolutely :D

nice cut on the side panel for viewing the radiator, really2 perfect cut....i wanna do that also on my side panel V2000, but it's to bad, i already cut almost entire space, so it will be a large view inside the case... :shakes:

mesh panel ! arghhh ! i can't find mesh panel like that in indonesia, thingking to order it from US, but it will cost me much :p: did you get that mesh from aussie salad ? or order it from US ? really wanted that mesh panel

SB and MOSFETs too? Wow, overkill much :p There's no compelling reason at all to WC a SB, and very little reason at all to WC MOSFETs, but hey, it looks good.

A few reasons...
1. The stock heat sink which supposedly cools all the major components on the board is joined by copper heat pipes so to get at the NB I had to remove it all.
2. I have to cool the NB because a mild OC sends temps trough the roof.
3. The SB on my board (Asus Maximus Extreme) does get hot, it also houses a PCIe lane splitter thingy
4. It looks cool
5. I'm retarded and have a credit card
6. I'm even more retarded for increasing my limit to $5,000 just to order parts internationally

How're components being split up between that 480 and the 320?

Still undecided on this; a single loop will look better (less clutter) while a dual will perform better. I reckon I’ll go a single loop with this layout:
RES>PUMP>PUMP>480>GPU>GPU>320>CPU>VRM>VRM>NB>SB/IDT

If I find it’s crap I’ll change it.
I’m not sure on the 320 though.. Will it pull out much heat? I’d go and get something else in an instant but I need to wait till I get these VRM blocks in to check for clearance.

Bahahah well I have my board under water and it is indeed pointless. Does look kinda cool though :p:

Just do your rads in series. Loop order isn't an issue.

I would do 2 loops because 4 gpu cores = inferno.

Of all the stores I've sourced stuff from, both internationally and domestically, I would say that GAMMODS is by far the best in terms of service and communication to the customer - I will buy from them forever.

Err I do have a cheaper source of mesh but it doesn't look as good. Hunt around for wire mesh paper bins. They normally cost 5 bucks.

The only thing I've got from GamMods was some acrylic and they packaged that nicely [I was concerned].

honestly, i'm not looking for really good material mesh panel, the only problem is can't find great panel that comes really solid and not easy to bent..many thx to salad for giving the GamMods link, i do already surf the web for looking casemod & LC's gear online shop that near indonesia, somehow can't find any online shop that can ship to indonesia, but GamMods does

is that a lili pcV2010b ? cause im having difficulty with mine...
layout is really starting to get to me.I got a PA120.3 in the bottom segment next to the psu and I have a PA120.2 which i cant mount it on the ceiling as it interferes with my mobo (Striker 2 Extreme). I tried mounting it upfront, but then i dont have space for my hdds, and it also comes in contact with my dvd drive. and i dont think it will be getting enough air, and the pressure inside the case itself would be too much, and wouldnt exhaust enough warm air or pull in enough cool air. Only option now is to go external with it, and that just terrifys me... i hate the look of eternal rads, especially when u have a case this bloody big.

I wish i had a lower profile rad to fit on the roof, cause although these thermochills are great, they take up too much space and are too bulky.

Very curious to see how it turns out. Your side window and air vents on the side panel are top notch!

Very nice cuts on those panels! Very nice. Nice and straight lines, and the radii on the corners is equal. Nice attention to detail. I notice stuff like that. It shows care, and takes time.

You've really done a nice on things. I like it. :)

Yeah, they are the SilverStone FM123's. (http://www.silverstonetek.com/products/p_spec.php?pno=fm123&area=usa) I got them because:

1. Dual ball bearing, not sleave bearing
2. Wide operating range (900-2600RPM)
3. They are silent <1000RPM
4. Nice colour lol!

May I ask how you did the window and air cutouts? Looks super clean!

I had it milled, turned out awesome.

Yep

I have a PA120.2 which i cant mount it on the ceiling as it interferes with my mobo (Striker 2 Extreme).

I have the same problem with the stock MOSFET heatsink, and my Black ICE GTS Stealth 360, (http://www.chilledpc.com.au/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=206&category_id=18&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=3) is only a thin radiator (34mm). I'll see if this is still the case when these new EK blocks turn up though. I've got a feeling I might have to cut a portion of the radiator off, not the core just the mounting/exoskeleton thingy. Apart from this I've found it to be an awesome case. Good luck with yours.

thanks, and good luck to you too :D If there was only some easy way to make it r-atx that would probably solve our top panel space problems. Whats weird is that on my cases packaging, it has a pcture of it in r-atx/btx, but i cant seem to find how that would work, without cutting rivets and stuff out.

No worries. I'll have a look at my packing tomorrow (can't be stuffed heading out to the shed now) and see if I have the same pictures. But yeah there's no way to do it, unless to turned the case upside down or did some serious hardcore modding.

Thanks,

You’re correct on the small holes, but these pictures were taken after I'd already drilled them out to accommodate M5 hardware. The radiator mounting holes are designed so that the fans are hard up against each other, but the grill holes are a bit further apart, allowing for a 2mm gap between fans. I only learned about incompatibility between some radiators and radiator grills after I noticed this and did some research on the net. I would have thought that it was standard to have the fans butt up against one another but for some reason this is not the case. Bloody noppas!

MomijiTMO
11-16-2008, 05:55 PM
Ahh ok. Yeah the fan spacing for MCR and Fesers is 15mm, TC spacing is 21mm [something like that] and hopefully other rads fall into these category. Oh well, you can't know everything on your first build right :D. The rad grill is 15mm spacing but you can get some other rad grills that accommodate the increase size.

My fingers are caning after screwing (literally) with fittings all night. I have no idea how tight the chipset and mosfet blocks need to be held down. EK should really supply back plates that have a screw stop built in. And I'm going to piss off all my compression fittings they are so tight it's ridiculous. Anyway update in the first post, the post that hurts the most.

PS: you all need to watch The Mighty Boosh (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=Dz2szNKnsXo) and The IT Crowd (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=58ALEL3sI8M) - both excellent shows.

I also concur that the Mighty Boosh is awesome, though the third series was a tad dissapointing. As for the IT crowd. Do you think so? I've read around here that it will be fine, and the more I think about it the more I think it will be fine too. My reasoning is this:

GPU blocks are quite restrictive. If the flow immediately prior to the GPU’s is >2 times what a single block can take then both blocks will have equal flow. If the flow is 1-2 times the capacity of a single block then I should still get equal or very close to equal flow. If the flow is <1 times the capacity of a single block then I’ve got other issues lol. The other big factor here is that this set up will see a net increase in flow rate over the entire loop, because there is less restriction over the GPUs as a whole (two paths instead of one). Furthermore, other advantages realised using this method are increased structural strength and cleaner looks lol.

Though the "did you know if you type google into google and press enter you can crash the internet," line makes me roar with laughter everytime.

I love the boss, the A team thing was the best! He’s the man. No siht, we were exactly like that IT crew at work. There were 3 of us, our area/office space was in the basement, no one cared about us, and we couldn’t pick up chicks…. lol

Absolutely looks amazing.. Love the painted inside.
Very clean and excellent tube routing. Yeah I also had a problem with the mosfet on the top. My motherboard is flipped, so I had to dremel the mid tray to get it to fit.
Great Job!

Update: Can't be stuffed explaining the pics any questions just ask. (I'll format the work log properly later)
Been very slow going over the last two weeks - was too hot in the shed and I'm lazy. I’ll be back onto it soon though.

btw can you gice me pics of the screw that you using for assembling the case salad..

They are plain 5mm M3 flathead socket screws from Micro Fasteners (http://www.microfasteners.com.au/fastenerpages/Miniatures/MinSocketScrews.html)

Here is a similar screw that's a bit longer

what is that T for at the inlet of pump 2?

It's for a drain port.
The barb on the end has a removeable screw in stopper as shown below

my god that is some dedication. I went through sleeving most of the stuff in my case and that took forever, but man, its doesnt even seem to be a bout 1/25 of the amount of sleeving you did. In one of your first photos, there a large pile that appears to be wound up sleeving. like 50-100 ft. is it? if so, how much have you gone through, would you say?

Very nice though. good job.

not sure if I am correct (might be able to tell more easily if its zoomed out) but my guess: almost like a splitter/multiplier. Takes the end of your lead cable and opens it up into multiples. Say, so you could bring power leads to a bunch of fans and fasten them into that bracket where the combine with a daisy chained power lead.

That was only a little bit of sleeving - I didn't even end up using it.
I purchased two murdermod mdpc-x psychopacks (http://store.murdermod.com/murderware/sleeving-kits/murdermod-mdpc-x-psychopack.htm) and have gone through one and still need to do a bit more with the 2nd - so about 150 feet so far.

As explained above.

The bottom four cables coming into the terminal strip are from the PSU.
The terminal strip set up allows me to hook up a bunch of devices to it but still only have one set of cable going back to the PSU. Basically reduces clutter down there. There is a zoomed out picture of more devices hooked into it back up the top.

There's a good picture of it and the rest of the case here (http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=25_30_394&products_id=7168) - just go to the bottom for the PSU plate.

Almost done, just leak testing at the moment, will sleeve my PCI-E GPU cables now and then inspect tomorrow! These pictures are really bad. Will find a decent camera and take pics with it when I am completely finished.

are you seeing any kind of delta between the vid card temps?

Don't know yet - I only had power to the pumps, fans, lights etc.
All my research shows that the difference will only be a few deg C if there is one.

I've been running the loop for +4 hours and it's fully bled and no leaks to speak of! Time to install windows. Actually might not need to do that, I've got a decent RAID card (Highpoint RocketRAID 3510) maybe it will sort the drives out automatically. The drives will not be in the same order they were in when they were last plugged in, unless I'm very lucky. Anyway it's 3:45am here and I'm not sleeping till I get some numbers lol.

Salad Fingers

Early numbers are in.

After running intel burn test for 5 passes on my QX9650 at stock settings the highest temp reached on any single core was 50C. That's with an ambient of ~22C and the fans running as slow as possible. On air I recall temps reaching 70C or so. At idle we're looking at CPU and GPU temps of <35C with an ambient of ~22C.

Just installed vantage now so off to test GPU temps when stressed.
