Forty-two is a composite number; its factorization 2 · 3 · 7 makes it the second sphenic number and also the second of the form { 2 · 3 · r }. As with all sphenic numbers of this form the aliquot sum is abundant by 12. 42 is also the second sphenic number to be bracketed by twin primes; 30 also rests between two primes. 42 has a 14 member aliquot sequence 42, 54, 66, 78, 90, 144, 259, 45, 33, 15, 9, 4, 3, 1, 0 and is itself part of the aliquot sequence commencing with the first sphenic number 30. Further, 42 is the 10th member of the 3-aliquot tree.

42 is the product of the first three terms of Sylvester's sequence; like the first four such numbers it is also a primary pseudoperfect number.

It is the sum of the totient function for the first eleven integers.

It is a Catalan number. Consequently 42 is the number of non-crossing partitions of a set of five elements; the number of triangulations of a heptagon; the number of rooted ordered binary trees with six leaves; the number of ways in which five pairs of nested parentheses can be arranged; etc.

It is the reciprocal of a Bernoulli number.

It is conjectured to be the scaling factor in the leading order term of the "sixth moment of the Riemann zeta function". In particular, Conrey & Ghosh have conjectured
http://upload.wikimedia.org/math/1/3/2/1320f3da4bc6fc5145ffe081115518ce.png
where the infinite product is over all prime numbers.

It is a pronic number, and the third 15-gonal number. It is a meandric number and an open meandric number.

Since the greatest prime factor of 422 + 1 = 1765 is 353 and thus more than 42 twice, 42 is a Størmer number.

42 is a perfect score on the USA Math Olympiad (USAMO)[citation needed] and International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).

In base 10, this number is a Harshad number and a self number, while it is a repdigit in base 4 (as 222).

The eight digits of pi beginning from 242,422 places after the decimal point are 42424242.

Given 27 same-size cubes whose nominal values progress from 1 to 27, a 3×3×3 "magic cube" can be constructed such that every row, column and corridor, and every diagonal passing through the center, comprises 3 cubes whose sum of values is 42.

I could copy and paste the rest, so here is a link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forty-two

Well, that killed 2 hours researching, hehe... I hope I win something, anything!

It took Deep Thought 7½ million years to compute the "simple" answer of 42.

November 6th should be marked on the calendar because there is a rumor that the Mirror's Edge demo might be released on that date.

6th of November: Finland celebrates its bilingualism, the 3% Swedish speaking minority to which I belong. :p: And oh yes, maybe it's XS birthday too.

42, the answer to everything in the book of all books by the author of all authors.

“The answer to this is very simple. It was a joke. It had to be a number, an ordinary, smallish number, and I chose that one. Binary representations, base thirteen, Tibetan monks are all complete nonsense. I sat at my desk, stared into the garden and thought '42 will do' I typed it out. End of story.” - Douglas Adams

42 is from Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

For those that may not know what we are referring to:

The Answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything is numeric in Douglas Adams' famous The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. In the story, a "simple answer" to The Ultimate Question is requested from the computer Deep Thought, specially built for this purpose. It takes Deep Thought 7½ million years to compute and check the answer, which turns out to be 42. Unfortunately, The Ultimate Question itself is unknown.

When asked to produce The Ultimate Question, the computer says that it cannot; however, it can help design an even more powerful computer (the Earth) that can. The programmers then embark on a further, ultimately futile, ten-million-year program to discover The Ultimate Question, a process that is hindered after eight million years by the unexpected arrival on Earth of the Golgafrinchans and then ruined completely, five minutes before completion, when the Earth is destroyed by the Vogons, to make way for a new Hyperspace Bypass.

XS's B-day, and 42-Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, 42 is the number Deep Thought came up with. The next computer, Deeper Thought, would have figured out the question, but the Vogons blew it (Earth) up.

As the title says, this contest will last for 24 hours.

Now to answer a few questions;
We do not know yet if we can ship internationally.
We are still working on the exact prize(s). (Yes Possibly more than 1.)
The contest is very simple, no requirements minus what is posted below.

1: Post once in this thread.
2: Answer the question I pose correctly.
3: For multiple correct answers, a random winner(s) will be drawn.
4: The Contest is open for 24 hours. ~ (Midnight Central time to Midnight Central time.)
5: Remember the answer is 42. or is it?
6: Whoever can tell me what #5 comes from, will earn a 2nd entry into the drawing. (Maximum of 1 prize per person!)
7: All are able to enter, staff included!
The question,

Why should November the 6th be marked on everyone's calender?

Anniversary of the Genesis of XS
Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. Someone else said number of mods too... :p:

6th of november -- xs birthday

42 -- hmmm...the amount of jay cutlers passing attempts tonight -- if a hole was dug through earth it would take 42 minutes to go from surface to surface...The eight digits of pi beginning from 242,422 places after the decimal point are 42424242?...hitchhikers guide to the galaxy...secret to life and universe

hmm...24hours...flip that and you get 42?...i'm guessing something really random now lol

Thank you very much to everyone who has participated!!!

Now to give the actual answers.
The first, why is November the 6th important, 7 years ago on this date, Xtreme Systems was born.
The second and extra point, is a quote from the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

For those who answered either question, received 1 point. For those who answered both correctly, got 2.
As obvious, it would seem that there will be a random drawing. For now, this thread is locked and it will be reopened once the winner(s) and prizes announced!
