This is just a quick little build to watercool my HTPC.

No MDPC by any stretch... I just want to get it wet with a minimum amount of modding.

When I saw the X2000 I knew it had potential for LC. Then when HW Labs released the GTX 140 series I just had to do it.

Here is where I got up to tonight

first some rads

240, 140, 420, 480

http://lh6.ggpht.com/BWestworth/SQXkT8JV6XI/AAAAAAAAAqs/73AtZTothNw/s800/DSC03190.JPG

Ill be using the 420 and 140 in this one

"what no sleving?!?!?"

Perfect fit
http://lh5.ggpht.com/BWestworth/SQXkqqW5P3I/AAAAAAAAAq8/INX_eBNkv7w/s800/DSC03207.JPG

Just had to move the HDDs towards the back about 25mm

mmmm dust filter.... this box has been in use for about 6 weeks on air

Hey guy, I was thinking of doing something similar to an x500. What's the clearance for that rad between the front panel and the MB tray? I was under the impression that I was going to be stuck using a thin radiator, but it looks like you're running "standard" thickness?

b@llz0r
10-27-2008, 08:17 AM
you might be able to fit a 280 down the front of an X500... They arent as deep tho so you might be a little cramped

luxbel
10-27-2008, 08:21 AM
The x500 uses 120mm fans upfront, compared to the 140mm on the x2000, but if it's not as deep, you're probably right on the money.

b@llz0r

ahhh ok

(pics not to scale )

Thats an ATX mobo in the X500 and an eATX in the X2000... no room in the 500 for a big rad... The front cover clips on and has a 35mm gap behind it... you could probably fit an mcr 240... possibly even a 360 with some modding

Q6600 with a fusion 2

2 8800 ultras with modded ek fc blocks (if i can sort out the irq conflicts with my other pci devices)

I might even throw that crappy S2E fusion block in the loop to see how it actally performs

Hi, I have a question for you, how do you mount the rad to the case? What bracket r u using to line up the screw hole, cuz I know the mounting hole on the case doesn't line up with the radiator, because my friend had the exacly same case and looking to get the 420 rad. Thanks.

I need as much info/detail as possible.:D

Cookie? No no no, a Cookie is more of a "How was your day" kinda present, if you destroy their living room with computer parts forcing them to watch tv in the bedroom, thats when you have to bust out chocolate.

BEAUTIFUL computer! I am loving the fact that a 420 fits up front perfectly! What modifications did you have to do to make it fit? Just move the HDD's?

i love the rads, however i dont think there are good fans out that can pair up with these fans.

Its true that as the fan gets larger, the CFM increases while noise decrease, however you have that fan ramed up against the rad.

Larger fans also mean larger deadspots in the middle, so your starving more area on that 420 then you did on that 480GTX. :T

i dont know man, i think the surface area is greater then the lost from the dead spot, + from the pictures and all the 140MM fans ive every seen they hub is pretty similar, especially with the higher CFM 120mm fans (kaze pana sanace etc)

ill agree with you when you say there might not be a fan good enough for those rads but i still think its worth a try.

lol true, but I meant between lian-li 120 to 140. generally they are typically sized. if you look at the yate 120's and 140's you will also find the hub is the same size.

I fixed the rad to the front of the case with two screws, I had to drill the holes for these as none of the existing holes lined up.

I also had to cut out part of the floor above the hard drives and move the hard drives 25mm towards the back.

Ill post some pics of the mods tonight

Here are the mods to get the rad in

The floor needs to be cut to fit the rad.... the red shows how much was removed
Needed to drill out the pop rivets to remove the floor panel

Then to secure the rad I had to drill two holes as none of the existing ones lined up
To access these screws I had to cut off the metal tags

Yeah this loop is too low a restriction for the Iwaki... even on the lowest settings im getting a vortex. I had initially planned to use DDC pumps, but the build has kinda evolved.

Im thinking of making this my gaming rig which has a supreme.... the iwaki isnt really htpc friendly either :)

small update... Automatic Starter for the RD30

Thanks to the help of KaptnKrunch I have wired a simple relay so that the RD30 will start when the computer is powered up.

A 30A horn relay should do it
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_5JXSu5Gfgo4/SQwsM390_mI/AAAAAAAAAzQ/LJflTQqevTQ/s800/DSC03254.JPG

Soldered in a diode on the 12V line... dont really know what this is for but KaptnKrunch said it would be a good idea
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_5JXSu5Gfgo4/SQwrzFsE2fI/AAAAAAAAAzI/GzX7z4c71k4/s800/DSC03253.JPG

http://lh3.ggpht.com/_5JXSu5Gfgo4/SQwunJfqQcI/AAAAAAAAA1k/dgLuAgDdWjA/s800/DSC03258.JPG

Added a wire to run to the pump and a bit of sleving
Yellow goes to the meanwell, molex to the ATX PSU, Black to the Pump

cheers guys... uv blue acrylic looks nice, and will hopefully save my cards from the stray drop or two

The uv acrylic FC8800 mod (underside) isnt holding up to the RD30's pressure tho.... sometimes when I shut off the pump I get leakage.... this wont do.

where part leak?

i suggest you replace those skinny/tiny red o-rings with something a little beefier... they are really too thin... koolance should change them as they are cheap...

or just too strong is the word, and not enough restriction... maybe add another rad or 2...

I was getting small bubbles sucked into the pump, so I put a piece of black coarse sponge down the bottom... no more bubbles, much quieter. As the sponge stopped anything getting sucked into the inlet I decided to bling up the res a bit by throwing in some uv blue 3 pin connectors and a uv led in the top hole.

Fired it up last night, Q6600 stock settings, with water @ 26C everest is reporting core temps of 28-32 idle, under load water goes up to 29 core temps 38-48.

http://lh4.ggpht.com/_5JXSu5Gfgo4/SQ5y_ZrUe0I/AAAAAAAAA8U/9L6HrQ_dMAI/s800/Everest.jpg

I tried cranking up the RD30 to 24V... wont do that again, vid card started leaking again and I even got a few drops from my NB block... I think it was about to blow the O ring!!! :D

I learnt one thing tho... water in and water out temp probes are a waste of time, im getting at most a 1c delta across the rad... I dont know what the accuracy of the temp probes are but im guessing probably about +/-1C at best :/

Nice build, guy! hopefully i can do something similar when i get the x500. and i agree with you, you probably only need a single probe in the loop to see what the delta from water to air is, and that's it. kudos!

Yeah... that also means that loop order isnt important.

the way guys were talking about the importance of having your rad after your pump and the cpu after the rad I thought there must have been a large drop in temps across the radiator.

I now understand that the loop works as a complete system, the blocks gradually releasing heat into the loop and the radiator gradually taking it out.

I think you would save a lot of tubing if you went straight from the pump to the blocks, then from the blocks to the rad, then back to the reservoir. Running the tubing across to the radiator, then to the blocks, then up to the reservoir is a lot of extra tubing. Not that it matters with an Iwaki, but it might look cleaner.

Either way, nice rig. More videos! :)

Nice build Ballzor, what size tubing are you using?

TY, tubing is Feser 3/8

Nice lighting, where did you get them?

30cm UV Cold Cathode tubes... you can get them pretty much anywhere

Yeah good point... I routed the tubes when I was under the misconception that loop order was important and then never thought to change it.

Re piped it tonight, much better
