After using Spybot Search & Destroy and SpywareBlaster I rarely get any popups.

http://www.safer-networking.org/ and
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

If those don't help you, check out the popup stopper list at
h t t p ://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/remark,6831550~root=sware~mode=flat~viewpoll=1;ifr ame=1 (link expanded so show text, it wouldn't post properly here).
- too many to mention.

I heard about EMS Free Surfer mkII from ":banana::banana::banana: Tip of the Day" on Unscewed on TechTV, but haven't had a chance to try it yet. You can find it HERE (http://www.kolumbus.fi/eero.muhonen/) if you'd like to give it a go.

pah, Go Proximitron. http://www.proxomitron.info/ Prox, is based on you settting your web browser to 127.0.0.1 as an ip proxy for proximitron which filters from there/

BTW, SJ i cant even view that link and im regged there :D

And if you want DIRT CHEAP you'll do what i did and still stick by as my favorite.

This you stick in your C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
And your set :) extract it first

Guess dslr doesn't want direct links to old threads, they must have my IP linked to my old account - I DID have some pretty hefty privileges there.

I was going to recommend the Proxomitron except for two things: I couldn't find a link to the RD5000 config files and didn't want to overwhelm anyone with what is likely both the best and most complex of browser filters.

Proxomitron is excellent but does so very much more than simple pop-up stopping. If you're willing to take on a fairly steep learning curve or hunt for a good canned config file, it's fantastic.

Without the effort to learn it, though, chances are good you'll install it, then toss it. A well-tuned Proxomitron makes the Internet what it should be but a poorly-tuned proxo is a royal pain. I have it here but have removed it from my kids' rigs because it does get in the way at times and I don't have the time to tune it any better.

Host files are fine, but I've found that large hosts files significantly slow down my browsing.

OK, I found the site with some very good filters so if you want to try Proxomitron, get Version 4.5 thru the site shray mentions, then get the JD fillters from here: http://www.jd5000.net/proxo/

What site gives the popups (PM me if you wish). Perhaps I can suggest a config line to stop them.

Plus, have you loaded the JD config file(s) into Proxomitron?

I use the Google Toolbar's new popup blocker. quite nice, and I've used the toolbar for a while anyway.

I use Mozilla Firebird, it has an inbuilt pop-up blocker which is pretty damn good

My only problem with Mozilla, Firebird, Opera and the Google toolbar is that I can't run a minimal toolbar, like this. Other than that, those are some good choices as well.

You might want to check out Crazy browser aswell. Great browser which has popup filter uncluding a black-list feauture. I can't remember if I have ever gotten a popup.

could you please test http://www.popuptest.com/ with your different blockers and see how well it does. Mine fails on these less common popup techniques;

http://www.popuptest.com/popuptest8.html
http://www.popuptest.com/popuptest14.html
http://www.popuptest.com/7/popuptest7.html
http://www.popuptest.com/popuptest6.html

Proxomitron 4.5 with the JD Extra filters:

popuptest fails on:

http://www.popuptest.com/popuptest9.html
http://www.popuptest.com/popuptest6.html

Partial failure on:

http://www.popuptest.com/popuptest8.html (orange popup with no text in it)
http://www.popuptest.com/7/popuptest7.html (airplane appears but no ad behind it).

Passes all others including "good" popups.

thanks sjohnson.
I installed Proxomitron+JD config and it seem to be a powerful program indeed. I still have some learning to do before I understand all the settings though :D

sjohnson

Yup, proxo is far more than a popup stopper, has a pretty steep learning curve if you want more than what someone else has configured!

You could use it to overcome the weakness of any browser if you worked at it...

Google has been the best so far but it doesnt stop the things like the security warnings, i..e if a site needs flash it will pop up and say do you want to downlaod blah blah blah, anyway way I can stop them?
