I need people's opinions on the best cable modem + wireless router combo...I currently have the standard cable modem/wireless router issues by my cable company (Linksys WCG200 ver. 2) but I don't like its range...the main wired computer is in the living room and when I'm in either of the 2 bedrooms I either can't see my connection at all, signal strength is very low or connections are not stable...my system is for home use (lots of gaming, internet browsing etc) but I still want a secure cable modem/router

I was looking at purchasing the Motorola SBG900 based on positive reviews...but it's a few years old and I hear conflicting info on whether it comes with WPA encryption or not...hopefully it does or better yet WPA2

does the SBG900 have better range and will it be an overall better modem then my current one?...or can anyone recommend a better overall mode/router...thanks for any advice

after doing a lot of research online last night I've decided to get 2 separate devices---one cable modem and one router...seems like that gives the best overall performance with prices that aren't too bad as well

I've decided to go with the Motorola Surfboard SB5101 Cable Modem

and I'm seriously considering the TRENDnet TEW-631BRP 300Mbps Wireless N-Draft Router

although I don't quite understand what the lack of a "Gigabit Ethernet port for wire-only devices" means...I read a couple of reviews online and they both gave this as a negative...I use the Gigabit Lan port on my motherboard and connect it to my current cable modem...does this router not allow that or will I notice any slower connection speeds when using the internet either with my wired desktop computer or wireless laptop connections?

if so I might just get the D-Link DIR-655 Xtreme N Gigabit Router

anyone have any opinions on which router to pick and what the lack of a Gigabit Ethernet port means for me?...Thanks again
