View Full Version : Which DDR3 with BlackOps, XMP?

I'm gonna buy Kingston Hyperx DDR3 dimms

Kingston HyperX XMP-1800 2GB DDR3
Kingston HyperX-2000 2GB DDR3

Would KHX14400D3K2/2GX "1800/XMP" be a good choice for X48 BlackOps?

I have no idea about XMP profiles

AFAIK XMP is disabled in the current Blackops bios, XMP sticks will stick work but you may need to tune the timings manually. I had to do this for both of the ram kits I used to get them stable at stock mhz/timings.

do you really care about XMP? why?

Me? I don't care :) just curious...

I got my DDR3 Kingston Hyperx 1800 MHz/2*1GB today but i will get another pair of 2000 MHz/2*1GB instead of 1800 when it arrives :)

I'd say: screw xmp. Go for the 2000Mhz:)

Yeah for a while 1800 and next month 2000 :yepp:

So XMP is disabled in P07 BIOS? I kinda spent about an hour and a half tryin to figure out where and how to enable it.

Just leave everything on auto and xmp kicks in.
Set the voltage manually.

(personally wouldn't bother with xmp)

Yeah well I dont bother with it really. :) just wanted to know it was there, and how to use it just in case.

just a clarification, is it XMP that kicks in or do you mean SPD?

well from what I saw in cpuz when I had everything on auto at 1600MHz the timings were the same as the XMP listed on OCZ's site.
Still don't like it though... Although saying that, it does give you a base line to start clocking and fine tuning the latencies.

*edit*
I did set the voltage manually... Just something I have a habit of doing anyway.

Forget XMP. Set your timings manually and get some GTR sticks. (http://www.tankguys.com/memory/ddr3-memory/ddr3-2000-mhz/csx-diablo-4gb-ddr3-2-x-2gb-2000mhz-memory.html) The board's BIOS' were tweaked with GTR in mind. If the Diablo's are too pricey, try these Mushkins (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146777). I haven't removed the spreaders, but these sticks seem to be GTR or GTS sticks by the way they tweak. Easily hit 1800, but I need ~1.6-1.7 NB volts for stability with my Q6600. With an 8400/8500/8600 dual core, these sticks should fly.

Awesome man, really glad to hear it :)

I got JNLs pretty content with 1600MHz, also pretty content with auto timings, set voltage manually and the 1st 4 primary timings 8-8-8-24. and wonder of wonders, auto set it to 1t CR. :)

Awesome PSU Sailindawg.

Glad to see that you got running. How is your northbridge voltage? I'm finding with the Q6600 that I really need about 1.6V to be fully stable. The 6600 really puts a load on the mem controller.
