I remember the days where it took 3-4 min. to download 1mb ...God, those modems were slow....

I remember 300 baud and the blazingly fast AppleCat 1200 (half duplex 1200 when connect to the same type of modem). Back then you could be a network junkie AND still have lots of outdoor time...while waiting for those d/l's to complete.

Don't forget the times you were almost at the end of a download, and you lost the connection .....oh the pain .....:D

I remember the days where it took 3-4 min. to download 1mb ...God, those modems were slow....

I downloaded a 2 gig set of flies for MS Flight something many years ago at 2K..Took a month and maybe 100 reconnects!:rofl:

It's not me whos getting 1gbit/s (wish it was :P) it's my cousin :)
Im still on 10/10 but planing an upgrade to 100/100 soon.
Dont know about you guis but here in sweden 10/10 counts as pretty slow. Most people overhere have at least 24 or more.
I visited dreamhack a few mounths ago and over there we had 2gbit/s but i got a bit sad when i used a internet cabel only going up to 100/100 mbit/s :(.

At that speed, you are limited to how fast the server connection is (if I understand it correctly). So, even with a 1gbit/s line, accessing xtremesystems wont be any faster. However, it would be awesome to have it a part of the majestic team.

A server is not only your "Server," it is also your "Master" :D

When you download a page, or a file, you are limited by the servers upload.

I found some pages about majestic but I don't understand the point of making this search engine? I may be stupid but why don't use google ?
And what is the point of making a search engine were the site owner decide what's going to be shown when someone finds that site.
As you probably understand I don't see the point with this thing so please explain it to me :)

That's a lot of questions, and i'll try to answer as many as I can.

Don't be mistaken, google chooses what comes first, they are paid that way. You dont go to page 1,000,000 out of 40,000,000. You don't even go to page 10, and they know that. You click on what's on the first page. You see ....

The point of MJ12 is a quality search, and not a commercial, as google is.

You are limited by every server you point to, and ask for a service.

I watched a documentary about google and how it was created and they said that you can pay to be on the first page (as you said) but they also put the links most people click on at the first page.

Are they not telling us the whole truth about this ?

Now when I think of it most people don't look at the 10th page as you said so there will always be the same links on the first pages.

Google is one of the biggest company's in the world and they always have to keep creating better and smarter ways to search the internet. So why do they keep there eyes and ears shut about this sort of web searching ?
