"Gemin-Cide"

The above name is latin for Double-Murder - which seemed appropriate considering the context of the build. Thanks to BlueAqua for the idea!!

Now before I get into the meat of this log I would like to point out that the worklog concept is still fairly new to me so if I get a little ahead of myself feel free to ask me to clarify whatever it is you want to know:up:

So without further ado I would like to thank the following sponsors of this build:

My Credit Card
My loving partner!

 :ROTF: - No.....really.....as without these two none of this would have happened!

A Quick Background

So where to begin....ah yes the beginning usually is a good spot I suppose  - Well I stumbled on XS in the later half of last year whilest doing some research on a replacement mb for my trusty old P5W DH deluxe that had decided to go to silicon heaven. What an eye opener this place was....never had I seen so many builds that surpassed anything I had ever imagined! Plus the great thing was there was just so much info for every aspect on building/maintaining one's pc...To say that I am addicted is probably an understatement.

Well with all this new found knowledge I decided that it was time for a change - I had just purchased the Maximus Formula which had the integrated NB waterblock and I decided to give it a go! Originally I was only going to cool the cpu and NB using the stock block but after spending lots of time in the MF watercooling thread and reading how by changing the stock block for an aftermarket one my temps would be considerably better and I thought well if I am going to do this - do it properly. So I built my first wc pc which consisted of a CPU, NB and SB block all running through a single PA120.3 rad in the bottom of a brand new TJ07! Before you ask why was there no GPU in that - well I had been using the 2900xt and knew that I wasnt really happy with it so I was going to wait for something else before adding that to the loop.

Here are some pics I took with my camera phone months ago when I put this together...

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/DSC00802.jpg

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/DSC00794.jpg

As previously mentioned alot of the hardware I already had on hand from when I built this machine originally however a few pieces had found their way into the Cosmos S build I did for my partner such as the Q6600 and the hdd's.

So I had to decide on some new toys....always love the shopping for new parts feeling! Basically I had to decide what I wanted more out of this machine and as it is primarily going to be used for gaming I decided (after reading a few threads and creating one of my own!) to get a dual core and oc a bit as most games still prefer a higher clock than more cores.

Enter this little thing (which coincidentally marks the introduction of my watermark for this build...not that you probably care )

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/cpu.jpg

And this!! (which is not really little )

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/4870x2.jpg

This leads nicely into...

Hardware to be used for this build:

Case: Silverstone TJ07 Black
PSU: Silverstone ST85F
Processor: Intel E8600
Motherboard: Asus Maximus Formula
RAM: Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800Mhz 1GB x 4
Graphics: HIS HD4870x2
HDD: 1TB samsung HD103UJ
Optical: Pioneer SATA DVDRW
OS: Vista Home Premium 64bit

The watercooling hardware:

CPU Block: D-Tek FuZion V1
GPU Block: EK 4870x2 block
NB Block: EK-NB-SMAX
Rads: Thermochill PA120.3 and 120.2 Radiators
Pump: 2 x DDC3.2 + xspc Reservoir tops
Barbs: Bitspower Fatboy 1/2" barbs
Tubing: Tygon R3400 3/8 5/8 tubing

And some pics of the hardware:

Note that the SB is not going to be used in this build - but I had decided this after fitting the CPU and NB blocks to the MB with tubing so unfortunately I dont have any more pics :slap:

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/DSC00023.jpg

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/DSC00524.jpg

These will be required for the two rads in the bottom of the case - now of course Bitspower have released parts recently that do the same thing but I bought these months ago before there was any talk of new ones from BP

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/90fitting.jpg

Ok that is probably enough for the first post as I do not want to overload you with info/pics so early in the build :hehe: Be sure to tune in next time where things will really start to get a move on :yepp:

What are you using to cool the southbridge?

Those barbs in the picture with your blocks really look good. I want some. ;)

Nice Dengals...just charge the CC and deal with the consequences later!

Just a tip on the EK NB block, get your tubing and clamps/zip ties on before mounting, the wide thumb nuts come in contact with the tubing. I can explain better next time we chat, but wanted to let you know now.

looking forward to your updates dangals.

and skinnee is right, the ek nb block retention nuts would get in the way of the clamps.
like mine (hehe).. i mounted the nb before putting in the tubes and clamps.
the tube was ok, just need more force to push it in... but the clamps are over the retention nuts

At this point I must give a HUGE thanks to Charles from Murderbox/MurderMod for putting up with my endless badgering/questions relating to his build that he did for FriedChicken and the MurderMod parts that are now available via his website www.murdermod.com He has been huge help - thanks mate I am glad to have shared this experience with you:up:

Now as you are aware my TJ07 is going to be using some of the new MurderMod parts that Charles and Nils have been working on over the last few months. When I received them I tried for a long time to capture their quality in photos but felt that I couldn't really do them justice with a simple point and shoot. That is why I have only got a few shots to share with you at this stage. If you want to see some professional shots of each piece simply go to www.murdermod.com and see the shots that Charles took as I cannot even begin to compete with them. Charles let me use one of the faceplate shots so I can put something in the log

Ok so picking up where we left off last time the first thing to do is strip down the entire case and give it a good clean out as I am going to be powdercoating the interior a nice flat black! I know that there have been a few pics already of stripped out TJ07's but a few more wont hurt!

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/DSC01072.jpg

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/parts1.jpg

:shocked:Whats that down in the bottom left?? As hinted at earlier today I had a delivery around this point courtesy of my good friend Charles.

Excuse the hand model

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/faceplate-1.jpg

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/StockBackplate.jpg

Now you may ask why is this the back plate in silver when usually MurderBox/Mods are always black - well they are offered this way so when you powdercoat your internals you can get this done with them to match. This is to stop having a slightly off colour backplate compared to the rest of the internals. So the next step is to have the internals plus the back plate shipped off to the powder coaters - I am told it is a 5 day turn around....

Thats enough for today - tomorrows update will include the mounting of the rads down the bottom and also get some sleeving done.

Firstly thanks to all for your kinds words:yepp:

Ok so with the case in pieces this gives me some time to get some sleeving done. I plan on sleeving most things in nice black Techflex that again I got months ago in preparation for this build. I put together a sleeving guide of sorts which some of you may have already seen but if not here is my Cable Sleeving Guide (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=202639)

And Pcie after

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/pcieafter.jpg

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/DSC00884.jpg

Well for the mounting of the rads I had thought about this and ultimately decided I didn't like the idea of attaching them with screws to the bottom of the case as I know that some slight adjustment is going to be needed to get this right. So whilest thinking about that I stumbled upon a sheet of foam that my partner had purchased for some craft work and it looked like it might do the job. The only way to find out is...

So a couple of cuts later and you get this

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/DSC00040.jpg

and it turns out to be a perfect height to allow proper clearance of the rad with the lip on the side of the case - how good is that

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/DSC00046.jpg

Starting to get extremely cramped down here

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/DSC00044.jpg

Some other little things that were done which you may have noticed is that I have removed all of the stickers from the PSU so it is now all black and I also sleeved the front panel connectors.

Ok well that is probably enough for today but I have some good news - the next update will include some shots of the painted internals that are now done!

Looking great! Do you plan on having foam above the radiators too? What kind of fittings are you using to route your tubing down there?

No just on the underside of the rads to support them. It actually works better than I thought as the foam tends to grip the bottom of the case and prevents the rads from moving anywhere....not that they have anywhere to go :p:

The fittings are the ones I mentioned earlier are these 90degree rotary fittings from Koolance that RRR recomended before the launch of the bitspower ones....

But not only that but you then have shared so much more in the way of knowledge and advice that I could never put a dollar value to and for that I thank you :yepp:

Thanks mate - great to see you back here:up:

Any good weekend updates? ;)

You asked and I shall deliver - an update....

Well the last few hours have been very productive. Got the case back from the powdercoaters in super fast time....I was told before dropping it off that it would probably take a 5 day turn around and it was ready in just under 3. How good is that! Turned out pretty well too

Now you may notice some marks on the mid plate and the mb tray - those are just my greasy fingerprints after removing the pieces from the packaging....after a quick wipe down they all dissappeared!

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/parts2.jpg

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/backplate.jpg

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/soundcard.jpg

Anyway back on to the task at hand - so with all the pieces back I could start to reassemble the case and start fitting pieces....now at this stage I somehow got a little caught up in the building and didnt do enough of the photo taking...so things kinda go from this

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/DSC01072.jpg

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/DSC00036.jpg

and then I found myself here.....without any photos in between. :slap:

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/closeup.jpg

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/DSC00346.jpg

Also at this point I was still going to be using the SB block as part of the loop - that is no longer the case and it has been replaced with the stock heatsink. It actually looks like this now...

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/b4graphics.jpg

You can probably see the top grill is now in place as well...

went from this

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/Before.jpg

And once the grill is removed you simply attach the little bracket and just pop it in...

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/topplatebracket.jpg

Now I had left the paper on the top as Charles said that once removed it is a notorious dust magnet and as I was not ready for the finished shots I left it there.

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/topplate.jpg

The next update is quite big actually as I finally received my block for the 4870x2. Origianlly I contacted a few places like PPCs and asked if they could do a special combination on the block for me - unfortunately they said no but one of the small Aussie guys said "absolutely that would look sweet"........and this is a teaser of what he was referring to

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/EKx2.jpg

So that wraps up my update for today - you will have tune in again tomorrow for your next fix! :yepp:

Man on man your case is fantastic with its pimped out murdermod gear XD.

This is making my decision harder. TJ07 or 2010B. . . ..

I think the answer is obvious......;)

I'm gonna need the contact info for your powdercoater...even if they are half a world away. :D

Looking very good Dengals...but come on with the teaser shot on the X2 block!!!

Couldnt help myself Skinnee - had to give you a reason to check back in tomorrow! :D

by the way it is Dangals not Dengals ;)

Edit: loop order will be restop/pump > 120.2 > cpu > nb and the other loop will just be restop/pump > 120.3 > GPU

I left the protective paper on there as Charles said that for the first few days after you remove the paper it tends to attract alot of dust and I decided that I would leave it there till I was ready for the final pics - now that you have your own incomming you will see what I mean :yepp:

Anyway onto the reason that most of you are reading this post for....an update.

4870x2 Perfection!

So as some of you have probably guessed by now that the block in question is in fact a Nickel Block with an Acetal cover instead of the standard acrylic one - as promised here are some more Shots of the 4870x2 block!

So the next step is to fit this in and get it leak testing! The end is in sight people! However I am going to take my time on this one as I really want to make sure that all of the connections are secure so I will post some updates when I can.

Thanks emoners and BA - I never really thought about making wallpapers of the shots - maybe I will do some once the build is finished of the most popular ones...if there is one that you want me to do just let me know.

I wish i could take nice photos like yours dangals :(.

Good stuff

Thanks Twwen2 - the trick to good shots is the tripod! I am never taking shots without it again....and the best thing is that you can get a decent tripod for next to nothing and it will work with most modern cameras.

On a slightly more build related note I wanted to get something else to help make use of the lovely 4870x2....I wanted to get the Samsung 305T monitor however they have recently released the 305T+ (this model being slightly cheaper but also has a wider gamut) and when I contacted everyone that listed the original 305T they said they could no longer get it due to it being discontinued. So I resigned myself to the fact that I would have to get the 305T+ so I placed an order for it with the cheapest online site and low and behold....

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/305t3.jpg

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e60/Dangals/305t2.jpg

I am so happy as not only did I pay for the cheaper model (about $100 less) I got the model I originally wanted....I have hooked it up to the cosmos build I did for my partner and I must say that I am so impressed with it and will never go back to small monitors again

Yes that was a kama bay that I had on the original build - the only place there was a gap was between the bay and the bay cover that was above it. Apart from that it was a pretty good fit. I wont be using it on the rebuild as there is nowhere for it to go with the faceplate installed.

IT's DONE! Well 99.95%

Well over the weekend I was able to get some good shots of the finished build, and I must say that I am extremely happy with the final result. One thing that I can say however is that it is really hard to take photos of the MurderMod pieces that really do them justice. I mean in real life these things are just perfect but trying to capture their beauty in a photo is very difficult. I take my hat off to you Charles for your shots on the website as they are truly beautiful.

A big thanks goes out to Charles for all your time and patience and also for allowing me to have your products before you launched your website. I have enjoyed our many late night conversations and I am sure that we will work together again sometime soon.

Ok I have run my mouth enough here are some photos...

Fantastic job Dangals!

I'm really looking forward to seeing the final shots.

I have to say that it's an amazing feeling seeing something I've had a small hand in, turn out so wonderfully. In a world with so much negativity, it's been an absolute pleasure conversing with you these past months. Your positive attitude and enthusiasm has inspired me and for that I thank you. Sorry for getting all mushy on ya but when you're really passionate about something, you sometimes get a bit sappy... or maybe I'm just a big Wuss. :lol2:

How does removing the top set of fans affect your temps on the air cooled components?

It doesnt seem to have made any noticable change to the overall temps as there is plenty of air that is able to pass out via the rear and top panels. Plus now that the corsair ram cooler is on it helps circulate the air that little bit better but to be honest it would be fine without it.

Absolutely amazing.:bounce:

Not at the moment - I was waiting for the sleeving to arrive as well as one final mod I was doing to the case before taking those. Now that I have it done the weather has turned to crap and I havent had the light I need to take the shots. I am hoping sometime over the next few days the sun will shine and I can get the shots done....

Thanks sniperbob - yeah I am really happy with the black and blue theme. It gives it enough colour without being overpowering. Looking forward to seeing your build once you have everything

The talent here never ceases to amaze me. I'm constantly taken back by the vision, creativity and commitment to detail modders like yourself have Dangals.

One night after many hours chatting to my friends Charles, BlueAqua and Skinnee - BA suggested the name "Gemin" which is latin for double or twin. This at first didn't quite feel right but started to grow on me and fast. After a bit more digging I saw that the latin word for Murder is "cide" and it almost seemed like it was meant to be....so without further ado I give you...

"Gemin-cide"

I've been looking at blue aquas work log as well, and between the two of you, I usually have some exquisite workmanship to look at throughout the day.

If I may ask, what heatsinks are you using to cool the mosfets on your formula?

You are 100% correct emoners - As shown in emoners post above there is one HDD used in this build and it is mounted just below the DVD drive using ine of these

http://www.nexustek.nl/images/disktwin1_large.gif

Works really well - cannot hear the drive at all and it also came in black which meant that there was no modding required

I have to do a complete teardown and rebuild and then get some proper pictures for you guys. I already inverted my CPU res and routed like Skinnee suggested and made a huge difference, but I have further ideas to keep the clutter down.

Well, I just wanted to say hope much I like the build ;)

You'd probably be best to PM Charles_H or dualbrain for that info.

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't know if it would be okay to share that information publicly for "copyright" purposes. But if anyone can give you exact specifics for what you're looking for, talk to Charles, he's the original creator of all things Murderbox.

And good luck with your build!

The R3400 stuff is shiny - dust tends to show up really easily so I gave them a quick wipe down before fitting and then took the photos pretty much straight away....But even now after a few weeks running they still look nice and shiny

I am not using any clamps - I have 3/8" tubing on 1/2" barbs which I must say is a very tight fit :yepp: However I may look at getting some of Evil's clamps when the right size / colour is available.

yes you could definately fit a quad rad in - Charles did it here (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=3742885&postcount=1)

they will both fit but you are right that there would be no room for pumps in the bottom compartment. There is room for 1 pump if you go the 360 and 240 combo but if you want the quad then the pumps would need to be in the main compartment.
