That clearly shows an engineering sample of the blackops was sent out with a copper nb top. Why didn't that make it into the retail version?

Cost? Copper has taken a dive on the market since then, but was pretty pricy when that pic surfaced. My ALu top has already started to corrode.

Didn't you use an anti-corrosion additive?

Nope, and my water had been in an all-copper loop for almost 2 years before going in the BlackOPs loop. Totally my own fault. Only took 1.5 months:D

the solution is called delrin (http://www.chilledpc.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?cPath=113_46&products_id=821)
but I have to agree, would have been nice of foxconn to make the top copper as well.

Yea that was an ES block at CES. It was posted here long ago. I think somebody had a bunch of Delrin tops made.

dont ask me... coolermaster makes the heatsink for us, very nice guys btw and good to work with! :toast:

they said they cant mold the top, its only possible to machine it in a cnc, but thats waaay too expensive for mass production...

now dont ask me why, i really dont understand why the top cant be molded... if its uneven you can just use the usual automated tools to even it out more or less and we can just use a thicket gum sealstring to even out the remaining tiny uneven-ess of the block top? anyways... they said its not possible, and the heatsink was a part of the delays for the blackops, so they didnt want to have another delay by finding a way to have it full copper and molded, especially since coolermaster and other manufacturers said mixing copper and alu is no problem with their coating, plus anti corrosive additives will prevent any corrosion.

well, without anti corrosive protection by an additive it definately IS a problem, we know this for sure know as we tried it ourselves and some of you noticed it as well...

but with the additives it should work fine.
again, this was the first heatsink we made at quantum force! :D
we learned a lot from it and things look much better for the new heatsink design ;) :D

So no chance of buying a copper top as an addon then? That sucks. I bought the delrin top from chilledpc but tbh I don't like the look of it, it looks too cheap and like it would crack easily.. and the screw holes aren't the same length as the foxconn top.

mhhh let me check, maybe we still have a copper top lying around here... :D
