i was looking through a review of the N96 which is Nokia's new flagship and noticed it has a slower cpu! not good for a 800 dollar phone, this makes my love my n95-8gb even more:cheer:

From what I can tell, it doesn't seem to be a better phone at all. Don't fix what aint broke, and if you're going to try, at least change the concept rather than slightly modifying what is already there.

Yeah, N96 is NOT a worthy successor. Why in the hell did they use a lower mAh battery on their flagship? And why a slower CPU? I've heard of no heat problems with the 'old' CPU in the N95, so what gives? I expected so much more from Nokia. They could've just added Bluetooth 2.0 support and another 8GB of flash to the N95 and it would've been a better revamp than the N96 is. Fail. Fail, Nokia.

ARM11 processor used in N95 / N95 8GB has longer pipeline because it runs at higher clock frequency. The ARM9 used in N96 runs at lower frequency but it also has shorter pipeline than ARM11.

Unless the 8 stage pipeline of ARM11 is fully "saturated" the ARM9 is much faster than ARM11 because of the fact that it has 5 stage pipeline.

Something like comparing P3 and P4 architecture at same clock frequencies ;)

Also Nokia BL-5F (950mAh) and BL-6F (1200mAh) are just slightly different, so usually the BL-6F can be used instead of BL-5F (this depens on the model).

I hate my N95 more than I hate MTV.... and I absolutely despise MTV >:(

Mine recently developed the nice habit of dying when I try to make or receive a call, everything else works fine, it's literally as soon as a call connects, instant death. Never touching a Nokia phone again.

N96 working a lot faster and lasting a few hours longer under constant usage, compared to old N95, here.

Negative

* CPU downgraded to ARM9 264MHz for N96 (N95 have Dual 332Mhz ARM11 based CPU)
* Same battery as original N95 (950 mAh), but the N96 reportedly has a much better battery life using the same battery (Nokia N95 8GB has 1200 mAh)
* No infra-red port on N96
* No Hardware 3D graphics accelerator for N96
* Built-in support for VoIP telephony (and thus cheap Internet Calling) removed from N96 (N95 has Nokia VoIP 2.1)
* Digital zoom is only x10 on N96, while it's x20 on N95 8GB

For me, Nokia N96 works slightly faster than N95-8gb (i have them bowth) and it is alot of better phone than N95-8gb.

btw. Nokia N96 uses Arm9E RISC prosessor not plain Arm9, so in this matter Wiki is wrong.

I know of two N95s dying, one was the gf's.

I'm rather over nokia, mums 6500 slide also died.

They all seem to have the worst battery life untill they give up entirely
and often drop out or go all fuzzy during calls, where any other phone is fine.

Pity, I always liked the older nokias, impossible to kill them, lately im having trouble
finding one that will work and keep going.

I have a regular N95, and I'm waiting for N85 when it comes out!
Nice big OLED screen and a bit smaller than my current phone... The only viable upgrade IMO...
