View Full Version : How Many Loops?

Hey again guys, just another noobish, easy-to-answer question from me, how many loops do you guys think I should run? This is what I'll be WC'ing:

CPU
Northbridge
Southbridge
3x motherboard mosfet blocks
2x 9800 GX2 graphics cards (so four blocks total, one for each gpu)

I was thinking three, broken down like this:

Loop 1: rad>pump>cpu>nb>sb>res>rad
Loop 2: rad>pump>mosfet1>mosfet2>mosfet3>res>rad
Loop 3: rad>pump>VGA1>VGA2>res>rad

that puts 3 things in each loop (well four in the last one, but, yah, complicated).

Opinions/facts/noobish slaps please?

Sorry I'm so noobish (yes this is my first WC'ing build):confused:

You might actually be able to get away with just 2 loops

With what in each loop please?

GPUs and southbridge. CPU, northbridge and Mosfets.

Or GPUs on one then the other for everything else. The SB and mosfets don't produce as much heat so they can be on any loop and not add too much to the temps

Three loops sounds a bit overkill. What radiators do you plan to use?

2x 120.3 Feser Xchanger and 1x 120.2 Feser Xchanger (for mosfet loop) is what I was intending to use.

I wasnt as worried about temps as much as I was about restriction and keeping it above ~1gpm in each loop. Mosfet blocks tend to be kind of restrictive from what I hear, and Im sure those GPU blocks are crazy restrictive the way they are built.

as for blocks I'll be using EK gpu + mosfet blocks, EK supreme for the cpu, and Enzotech for the north and south bridge.

as for pumps Im planning on using Swiftech MCP350's.

Keep the NB, SB and MOFSETS on the same loop. The NB can put out a lot of heat and putting it in the same loop as your CPU will definately affect your temperatures.

I would be putting:
CPU on a 120.3 (providing the CPU is a quad and you will be overclocking it)
GPUs on a 120.3
MOFSET/NB/SB on a 120.1 (if a copper coloured heat pipe can keep everything undercontrol a 120.1 will have no problem)

nice ty for the info.

btw.... your sig quote "Created on a CRT (colours look strange on some LCDs) "

this is due to CRT's being a different gamma than LCD's. CRT's run 2.2 and LCD's run 2.6. You can adjust this in your display settings on nvidia cards on the nvidia display control panel under the colors tab, just adjust the gamma to 2.2 (things will seem a little darker, but colors and what not will be more accurate, and you will get better saturation and less bleed)

random tidbit for you.

Colors look absolutely gorgeous on a Pioneer KURO Plasma....

:D Second. Looks great on a 9G Kuro 5020!!!

A 50 inch Kuro 5020FD costs $4K dude.

The 60 inch Kuro costs about $5K.

Even the 70 inch Pioneer Elite (next level up) costs about $6,500

Yes, Pioneer Elite Pro 50 inch costs about $10,000, but that's like comparing a BMW (great car) with an ultra exotic

I'd do

Loop 1: rad>res>pump>cpu>rad
Loop 2: rad>res>pump>sb>nb>mosfet1>mosfet2>mosfet3>rad
Loop 3: rad>res>pump>VGA1>VGA2>rad

2 or 3 loops. I would say 3 to be safe.

1 for CPU
1 for Graphics Cards
1 for all the other low heat stuff

So 3 loops would optimally cover you, but you can get away with 2 loops if you do

1 for CPU, MOSFET
1 for Graphics Cards, NB/SB

Your choice of 2 triple rads will do the trick.
The order which they go in is really dependent on what blocks you choose.

What are you talking about? You clearly NEED 5 loops.

I think 2 shall be fine but hey if you have the cash and the desire why not go with 3.

BreeSpree

...We can't use that as a joke because RRR is actually doing that...
He has 3 PA 120.3's just for the CPU...

So we should change the joke to:

You obviously NEED OVER 9000 loops!

I'm mad because I don't have the $$$ to do it.
I'm not mad at you, gosh. I'm happy your doing it, someone has to, otherwise the forums would just be ordinary, and we all pretty much build the same thing. It's going out on a limb that catches people's attention.:yepp:

you mean like dropping $3,700 on a new build with quad SLI, 8gb of ram, 3 loops, all entirely water cooled, with a 5tb raid 5 array with a backup 1tb raid 1 array in a brand new MM Ascension custom order case? Cuz thats pretty much what Im about to do in the next 5-6 days :fact:

the gx2 are outdated if u are buying new u would 1 not want any SLI until the i7, and 2 sli is slower than xfire so u could get a 775 with a good MB and not need SB cooling and have a more solid platform

and i hope that u are planing a 790i and some low ram speeds or u wont see 8GB of ram working and will need a raid card with that config,a and if u have to 2 260 or 280 are better

finaly make sure that ur MM is a horizon those are way more bad ass than the standard ones

and last if u do go 790i then make sure to get the bits power MB block with the NB and SB covered in one its awsome and will keep space near the cards

Why the  face over how I choose to allocate my radiators...

i like your build especially the oilers pic, but with all that nice liquid stuff i think that u could have gone for the 790i instead of the defective out the box 780i, with that kind of cooling i would have expected soemthing that could reliably oc under it

or is that diffrent than the black attack

Parts:

CPU: Q6600
RAM: 4x2gb Patriot Viper Cas-7
Mobo: EVGA 790i Ultra A1 (not FTW version)
Raid Controller: Highpoint RocketRaid 2220

Definitely going with horizon version, I emailed barry about a custom finish for it as well.

If bitspower would f****ing release the NB/SB block I'd be all over it, bastards.

Are you sure 2x 260 > 2x GX2? o_0

as for XFire > SLI, Im not going anywhere near another ATI product until they get their act together, especially in regards to drivers.

yes the 260 or 280 is faster and why no ati they have great drivers people just complain becouse they dont uninstall tehm and teh c++ library that come with them before they reinstall so it gets tainted

i would suggest that u wait for the i7 and skip the supper raid it will balance out with being able to use an intel chipset and sli

9G refers to the 9th generation of the Pioneer Kuro, not $9,000. The newest version is the 9G (5020 and 6020).
