Birdman Yves Rossy powered into the record books yesterday with a remarkable cross-Channel flight - and a grin almost as big as his wingspan.

The Swiss adventurer stood on the White Cliffs of Dover after flying from France with a jet-propelled wing on his back and declared: 'It's like a dream come true.'

He parachuted into an English field 22 miles from Calais 13 minutes after takeoff. The 49-year-old aviator flew at up to 125mph after jumping from a plane 8,200ft above France.

nice, but very impractical (even for spies :))

should have built in an afterburner, theres much more to sqeeze out of those jets (model jet engines afaik, together around 100 pounds thrust; so ground take off very hard)

4 JetCat P200's, so he's got 180 lbs. It might take off if someone lighter was in it. He might be able to add 2 more engines, idk.

ah, shame on me

i looked at the specs of that model a380, wich has got the same engines and 48 kg of thust; then multiplied it with 2

ground take off still not possible, those turbines have to be 2 times as strong for that

I was thinking the same, it's a bit like cheating.

Maybe if he builds a ramp with rails and some kind of a sled that you can lie on?
