Hello all,

I'm currently in the planing stages of my video loop for my water project. I'm looking to water cool a single Nvidia 8800 GTX. I'm not a big fan of full cover water blocks so I'm looking at the following:
Swiftech MCW60-R VGA cooler - Rev 2
Then I guess I need a ram sink kit for the other chips
D-Tek FuZion GFX 2
I think they have a full cover piece for the other chips
Please let me know if folks here know about issues with these to blocks or have suggestions for something better.

Thanks!,

VRAM doesn't need to be watercooled, neither does the NIVO chip. Enzotech sinks are your friend.

I have to say, to make sure u cool everything correctly i like the FC block, and the ones i have on my 8800GTXs are EK and they are superb, i can't fault them

you could go with either block you said with a unisink

If you're looking for a gpu only solution I'd go with either the Swiftech or Fuzion GPU blocks along with a unisink like this:

My problem with the EK full cover is it s a one card kind of block where the others can be moved to different cards down the road. Don't get me wrong I'm a total ek whore LOL
Thanks for the help guys

Sponge... Go with a EK Nickel FC Block...

Back to the original question by the OP. I gather you're going to be running a seperate loop for the GPU's...I can only echo/+1 BlueAqua's recommendation below. I couldn't choose between either the D-Tek or the MCW myself, so I am in a holding pattern on getting my GPU's under water.

I'm with ya man. That is why I'm doing the research now as I gather the parts for my video loop. The MCR220 is on it's way :D

How many GPU's in the one loop?

For now I gpu 8800gtx eventually I may move to crosfired Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3

Well, either choice would be fine in a dual block loop. We do not have any restriction numbers to use for the D-Tek, but we know the MCW60 is tried and true. I cannot say this with absolute certainty, but the D-Tek does appear to be more restrictive. By the way, which pump did you plan on using?

So at this point, I would say go with whichever one looks better to you or which one is easily available. The costs are very close. Personally, I was leaning towards the D-Tek before I called off my search. I've had great results with both of their CPU blocks...but the same goes for Swiftech.

Not much help in deciding am I? :D

LOL well I plan on using a MCP355 with XSPC res/top my only concern is if a MCR220 is enough rad for crossfire may need to look at a better rad well see my space requirments only allow for 2x120mm foot print

Well, the 4850's look to be 200+ watt in heat load each (quick google search, so this might be wrong, but for the matter at hand lets assume ~200w). I am not certain on what the heat dissaption is for an MCR220, I haven't run the tests myself.

You can use a 220, but the air/water delta will be higher, meaning your temps will be higher than using a 320. Be aware that your temps will be higher as a result of the rad not being able to efficiently dissapate the entire heat load produced by the 4850's in CF. Its a trade off...clean fit of the 220 vs. higher temps on your cards. The decision is yours to make.

edit: if anyone has the actual heat load numbers for the 4850...that would be great! 200w per card doesn't seem right to me.

pish...

You see this guy:

i have her on a MCR220 with jab-tech orange slow speed yates.

@ 26.5C Ambients it holds my water temp at 30-31C, which is aiight for gpu loop.

Load temps shown:

so pish, anyone that tells you a mcr220 cant do xfire unless there xfiring 2 hd4870x2 is smoking crack and i want some. j/k!

LOL Neakuh to the rescue should have known that guy has everything very sick setup guy :D well that ends that. Ok the plan goes forward now the question which one D-Tek or Swiftech hmmm......

BTW thanks for the research numbers skinnee! much appreciated. We need silver plated stuff! soon!

No problem...I'd still like to know your temps once you get going. I still have a sneaky suspicion that NaeKuh has something else involved...

pictures tell it all...ram sinks are hot but i put some fans on my motherboard to keep it cool...

hope this helps

disregarding hearing 6 fans on mcr320

heheh

I already got silver in my loop

nope.

My GPU loop is as simple as it can get. Shortest tube length possible. Loop order is:

DDC-3.2 -> GPU -> MCR220 -> EK Xres -> Repeat.

SHORT TUBE LENGTH IS KEY!! And i have Koolance QD to kill my flow on top yet i still pull decient temps for gpu. :D

Why are there two GPU temperatures?

40c and 28.5c

LOL Neakuh that's one hunk of silver in that res you could kill a werewolf with that! I'm limited with my XSPC/res/top does not come apart

one is for the gpu core and the other is the gpu diode...

evilsponge

Gonna assume the higher temperature is the core then? and thanks for the info.

NaeKuh's temps have 2 GPU temps cause its a the 4870X2 model so 2 GPU cores

FYI, I run 2 x HD4850's with a MCP355 and XSPC Res top. I use a MCR220 with San Ace fans. My temps are 33-37c (idle to load) with ambients at 27c. WB are MCW60's with Zalman memory sinks.

Hope that helps.
