What exactly is happening when you try to use the card?

I am running two sapphire 4870 X2 cards on the G30 bios and the catalyst 8.9 drivers.

Before 8.9 I was using just a single 4870 X2 and it worked just fine with the 8.7 and 8.8 drivers. Was using the P05 bios at the time.

I have 2 Blackops boards and both work with 4870 x2 single card since bios g28. It took G30 to correct the crossfirex (2x 4870 x2) issue and that works just fine. What do you see on the screen? What OS are you using? Have you re-loaded the 8.9 drivers? I do not think you have a bios problem.

Hi Vipers, you should stick to the latest bios G30 as this is certainly not a bios problem, as the card is working for other people. There never was a compatibility issue with the 4870x2, the only problem was with 2 x 4870x2 in crossfire, and this was fixed in G30.

Are you saying that if you clear cmos the card works, and displays properly, but if you make a change and reboot you get a black screen?

If you clear cmos, can you boot into windows with a normal screen?

Ok I have seen that problem. It seems to be a random thing that pops up for some people with the newer ATI cards. Use a DVI to VGA adapter and plug into the VGA port on your monitor.

You should be getting video now. Once you boot in go into the CCC and either change the refresh rate and apply or go into the digital panel section and select the "reduce DVI frequency on high-resolution displays" box and apply. Once you do that the DVI should be working normally again. You can change whatever you did back and it should still be working.

Nobody seems to have any clue why it does that. Maybe its some sort of driver thing that changes the output of the video card or something. But it can be fixed because I had the same thing happen.

interesting... thanks a lot! :toast:
i had similar issues running 4 4870 cards on the F1 board, i had to reconnect the monitor cable to a different card or slot sometimes.
sometimes i could see the bios using one particular plug on one particular card, but then in windows all was black, and sometimes it was the other way around :D

i never managed to get the top card to work for both bios and windows and in the end used the second or third cards dvi connectors, which worked fine...
