If your vid card is dead your mother board should boot. There also should be a beep.

I had a dead one before just trying to remember everything that occured.

Pays to write things down........

Hope you work things out.

i cleared cmos what would cuase no post?

Ok the things that I had that were wrong when I got no beeps or anything was when something wasnt set all the way in. The PSU was bad and a bad video card.

The CMOS deal, shouldnt, unless it was damaged somehow.

Id first check to make everything is set.
2nd Id check a new PSU if possible, grab one from another system, or borrow one from someone if possible.
3rd, Swap out video cards.

JBELL:

Can you provide some basic system specs? (mobo, CPU, PSU, overclock, temps, volts)
Any symptoms during the last time the system was running fine?
Have you recently made any changes to the system?

Try this:
Remove the vid card completely. if everything else in the system is okay, you should get the "no vid card" or "bad vid card ram" award beep code which is one long/two short.

I had this with 2 KR7 mobos. The bios chips where dead.

I have had this same problem also where it fires up and will not post...no beep codes. It was bad bios twice and dead cpu the other times. A warm cpu does not mean it is necessarily functioning....I've been thru that before unfortunately.

mdzcpa is correct...remove the vid card or the ram...you should get the one long 2 short with the vid card out...or one long beep with only the ram out. If you still get no beeps with that method...its definitely the bios or cpu.

I've seen bad video cards cause a no post/no beeps scenario quite often. Other causes I've seen: CMOS jumper left on "clear", and not put back on normal. Bad motherboard. Dead CPU. Bad power supply. Even a 128MB PC2700 stick with 0.13 micron chips on it that wasn't recognized by the board produced this result before.

JBELL,

Do you have both the PSU power connectors hooked up??
That mobo takes both like an Intel mobo.

OPP

JBELL
07-27-2002, 08:34 PM
yes I have both....

but never gotten to post... first day - i couldnt keep temps under control, after talking to gooch I got it cooled correctly (koolance sucks!) then I couldn't get it to post - thinking it was video.... as it has been in the past, later the second day I noticed every light flashing on digidoc5 and koolance temp board... looked inside and fans move with flashing - power button and reset button do nothing and the flashing is happening as soon as you plug into wall!

opp - if you got aol AIM hit me up - BELLZ24

*edit*

I talked to jws and i am getting a vid and psu from him... gonna test with that and i am trying to order a ttgi 500ss psu

OPPAINTER

I do have aol but it isn't installed.
The mobo was in top shape with new bios chip so that can be ruled out.
It does need some good power to run it though so I would say that the PSU is your problem.

Unhook all the other power lines and throw a heatsink on it and just try it without all those other fans and stuff running.

Unplug them, you have to try all kinds of stuff, then try unpluging a bunch of things to lighten the power load on your PSU.

You can also try puting the mem in different slots, maybe this will do somthing, doubt it though:D

ok ok unplugged all vmod's....digidoc5, all case fans - EVERYTHING
I reset the connections for power molex's
still flashes ..BUT it flashes longer and the fans spin more during the flashes which are separated by about one second.... so I am thinking PSU by that action....

OPPAINTER

Like I said the first time PSU.
Plug the mods back in and just wait for the PSU.

Off topic:
You've never bought a Box AMD chip that comes with the H/S??
I use the stock heatsink all the time for testing mobos. A cheap easy mounting heatsink is good to have around for pretesting before you mount all your water gear up.

I bought a t-bird stock but sold it ..

I got 2 1800+ chips - and my P-I-T-A! swifty hsf

I'm gonna go get another volcano7+ to have in reserve ( I LOVE THIS HSF!!)

JBELL, you have the 1-lug or the 3-lug clip on that V7+? IMO, the 3-lug clip should be terminated with extreme prejudice: it's a slug cracker - I only attach/remove mine after pulling the board out of the case and without any distractions...

JBELL
07-27-2002, 11:02 PM
3 lug and it isn't that difficult to work with......

but i am nto a fan by any means

Alright, this has happened to me once before as well. I didn't see on this thread if you said you have tried it out of the case (like on a table or something). If you haven't, try that. One time the mobo was touching somewhere in the case I geuss, and it wouldn't start in case, but out of case it worked fine.

JBELL
07-28-2002, 11:07 AM
but I got it to work beforee..... then the next day it freaks out

koolance case is falling apart!!!! I am repairing the res right now and re-tubing the whole thing!!

the koolance cpu block is anodized aluminum to look like copper - foudn that out from my cpu burning through the paint... also the tubing is all 1/16th not 1/8th thickness..... not good if you use swifty parts. Also the RES intake broke on me and I am repairing that too

Bummer there JBELL:(

Any idea what caused the problem? I would think it can be one of two things....either the clip-on style waterblock "twisted" away from the core slightly due to hose pressure, or the pump wasn't pumping.

Just curious so everyone can learn. That's only bright side to burning up a good chip.

PS...I hate clip-on style waterblocks...whether or not this was the problem. I only trust the blocks which use the 4 holes.

JBELL
07-31-2002, 09:48 AM
at first pump was not pumping but I got it going and chip was still fine at that point......
