I have recently built a new system(running Vista ultimate x64 bit). But have had some troubles getting it stable at stock settings? My specs are in my sig. If anyone could suggest anything, i will be extremely grateful.

After installing parts/drivers/updates i ran Prime95 and OCCT testing for stability. To my surprise they both failed at stock settings (also super pi mod will not complete a 32M cycle). I have had my suspicions it may be the RAM (corsair dominator C5D 2x2GB) because CPU-Z was showing extremely weird values.

Here are the values i saw from several restarts of my computer (it
seems to be random):

NOTE the missing max bandwidth in slot 3 and the added serial number in slot 1,
as well as the missing JEDEC#2 in slot 3

NOTE the size difference again as well as the timing table being totally
different in slot 3
http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/7295/ramissue3nn5.th.jpg (http://img140.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ramissue3nn5.jpg)

NOTE the slot 3 stick size! Also the part number of slot 1
http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/3786/ramissue2fw4.th.jpg (http://img140.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ramissue2fw4.jpg)

NOTE the manufacturer, part numbers an timing tables (slot 1 showing weird
values)

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

There was one point in time where ram had no CPUz values whatsoever in those fields you mention so that is most likely not a clear indicator that your ram is bad.

I notice that you too are running an Asus Xfire board and if yours is anything like mine, the default vdimm will most likely be *ridiculously* low when at default settings..... like 1.7v low. Which will cause any "good" memory (by our standards) to spew heaps of errors since nothing that overclocks worth its weight runs on anything less than 2.0v

That being said I had nearly the same exact issue when I initially got the motherboard set up. Once I figured out what was going on all I did was go into the BIOS and manually set the usual 2.1v and my problems were solved. Id try that first and then if you continue to have issues with OCCT run memtest as that will be the only way to know for sure.

Thanks for your quick reply, although i am already running them at 2.1v and still getting these issues. (when i said stock ram i should have clarified, i tried both 800MHz and 1066MHz 2.1v, so no overclock on the ram. Sorry for misleading you) i will run memtest now for a while but i had ran it previously (only 3 passes long) but no errors, i will run or longer and see what happens. Thanks.

*Also i am borrowing 1x 1GB ram stick off a mate, so if i test and they are fine, it will most likely be ram. If not i guess it's the board.

Thanks again.

*EDIT: Also memtest86+ (booted from a cd) seems to lock up on me after a certain time. Could that indicate bad ram? I'm running it now (for at least 7 cycles)

Either that or your motherboard is overheating one of the two.

Yeah, i think it may even be the board. I'm having the ram sent back to the place i brought it, i explained my situation and they seemed very helpful. They said either ram or motherboard. So i guess if they rule out the ram for me, it's back to the other store which i purchased my motherboard... Here we go... Thanks for your help.

Let me know how this works out for you after the RAM exchange.

Sorry for the delay. It turned out to be a faulty board. Story doesn't get much better as the replacement board was a dud also. But i got my money back :D then brought a Gigabyte X48-DQ6 and it's working like a dream!

Thanks for all your help.

Ahhh...the joys of building your own computer.

Glad to see you got a system up and going.
