Just spent desperating hours trying to get a Tbred 2200 working on my KX7-R with no luck (of course), I poped my TBird 1.4 back in (and it works great) and I found this forum and it seem there is in fact some hope, but I am still a bit confused.
I read and understand that in order for it to work I need to close the #5 L3 bridge, but what are the default multiplier and FBS settings for that CPU@1800Mhz ??
Will I be able to set those defaults, whatever they are, after closing that bridge? Or do I need to close all 3 open bridges in L5 to use the 2200 defaults to get the 1800Mhz?
Shall I try the bridge closing or would an RMA to Abit be worth it , would it be better??
Would really apreciate some answers if possible.
Thank you very much in advance.

13.5 is the default multi i think. I think you also only have to close that one bridge.

After you close the 5th L3 bridge, you will not have access to 13 or 13.5 multipliers. The default is 13.5x133. You'll have to change it to 144 x 12.5.

And I would go with closing the bridge, an RMA will just bring you another board w/ the same situation. I believe there is a bios update to the KX7 as well which will fix it so it is properly detected.

The bios update DOE NOT fix the cpu detection, and the original boards will not detect the 2200+. The current boards being sold, it seems, and the rma's from Abit have the hardware fix for recognition of the T-Bred. Sys is right in his synopsis of what happens when you close the L3 bridge....it gives you multi's of 5x-12.5x....you'll no longer have the default 13.5x. You'd have to push the Front Side Bus to 144Mhz to achieve 1800Mhz..but thats all good too..as it will give you better bandwidth and overall system operformance as opposed to 13.5xx133Mhz FSB.:)

Running smooth 12.3X144 , I am using 1Gb of Crucial PC2100.
Thank a million guy, those who answered me and those who worked hard to find this solution.

Is there a way to figure out which KX7 will and which will not work
with the 2200+ without try and error ?

J-C:)

You're very welcome my friend. Glad you came to the best place in town for the right answers and help:)

JPP:)

Please don't take this as written in stone..as I am not 100% sure, but my take is the current revision 1.1's contain the hardware fixes to recognize the T-Bred 2200+. I haven't tried it as my 2200+ is unlocked and I don't want to undo it as this time. My 1.1 is a 1.0 board that is penned in as 1.1 on the sticker, which leads me to believe it's a late revision to address the T-Bred recognition problem.:)

Randi,
thx for your response. The reason I am asking is because the KX7 I bought two weeks ago says Rev. 1.0 on the sticker but it came with the latest bios. I just dont like the idea that I will have to rma the board when I receive my new cpu. Thats why I want to be prepared.
Thx again,
