View Full Version : Yet Another Tubing Question...

i notice that the most common tubes are variants of PVC...

can Polyester tubes be used with coolants or Distilled + Nuke solution?

Poly tubes are stiffer and yet much stronger...

yea, i worry about the pressure they will put to the cards as well as the quality of the seal on the barbs.

can silicone be used as a sealing agent ?

With PC watercooling you really don't need to worry about the strength of typical tygon type tubing as it will hold up to pretty much whatever you can throw at it. There are guys on this forum using RD30 pumps and can handle normal tubing. If you want to be safe, use thicker wall tygon (or equal) and hose clamps.

You NEVER want to introduce silicone to a loop as that would have very bad affects on the components.

well, i was walking around my local hardware store and had a nice chat with the dude... and i just got curious...

yes, we do not need strength in our basic WC'd setups... but i was looking for something a bit crazy...

good to know about silicone... but is Poly tubes safe? i'm not concerned about clearness of tubes and such...

kinghong, you talking about PE or PUR tubing? Either way, your fine. I use mostly PUR in my builds because I use push-in fittings. I also have some PE tubing around here somewhere as well. Currently re-working my daily surfer with some Extra-Flex Nylon Tubing.

hmm... push in fittings... like those used in kitchen sink water filter tubes...

that does sound interesting...

what ID are you using Waterlogged?

and can you show me some pics of how you connected the fittings to the blocks? do they come in g1/4?

as for PE or PUR, i just saw some stiff tubes at Hardware Store and got a cutting of it... to play with it.

Yep, they come in G1/4".....AND G3/8"....they even come in 45° and 90° rotaries (that don't fall apart). The bad part is the sizes, at least here in the States. The biggest size I can readily get my hands on is 12mm O.D.. The metal ones are made by Legris and are G3/8" x 12mm, they have a 7mm hex inside that can be drill out to 10mm. The black delrin ones are John Guest G1/4" x 10mm, they also have a 7mm round hole that can be drilled out to 8mm (maybe 9mm). The metal one laying on it's side is a G1/4" Legris with the same features as it's bigger brother.

Tubing size can become a confusing headache as well, here's proof.

This system uses straights, 90° and 45° and uses 12mm x 8mm clear PUR.

This system uses straights and 45° and uses 12mm x 10mm black Nylon tubing.

This unfinished system uses straights only and is using 10mm x 6.5mm black PUR tubing.

The daily surfer I'm rebuilding is going to use the JG fittings and 10mmx 8mm black Extra-Flex Nylon Tubing.

These fittings and tubing aren't for everyone as there are some hard sacrifices to be made to use it as you can see.

interesting indeed...

see, i have this idea stuck in my head... if we can make the tubes take the shape we want them to be...

it may be kinda like using elbows at the bends but these will be not that sharp of an elbow... say a tube can come out, run parallel to the X and Y and Z axis within your case...
i guess my OCD has the better part of me.

Tygon tubes keep some of the shape but not that much...

i am thinking of these hard plastic poly tubes so you can shape them as you want...

i think the stiffness of the tube will help in here... but then the problem is that they will not connect well with the barbs...

I'm one step ahead of you kinghong. I'm finding that the Xtra-flex Nylon is pretty good at doing this, all it takes is a spring with the O.D. the same as the I.D. of the tubing and some boiling water. ;) I haven't tried it with any of my other tubing yet...but I will eventually.

I will spill a little secret about the clear PUR tubing though, it never clouds, it just very slowly turns yellow and @ $1.11/ft it's about half way between Masterkleer and Tygon.

lol, your spring method is waaaay better than what the dude told me at ACE...

"Plug one end with a cork, stuff the other end with sand... and bend'er over..."

um... with a pipe bender that is...

Xtra-Fex gives a good seal with the barbs + clamp?
let me know... i'm very interested in this...
