Does the Blackops support the XMP profile?

I've a plan to go to 8G and have swapped out my wonderful 4G OcZ ReaperX sticks that worked great at 1600, for Corsair Twin3X4096-1600C7DHXIN G. With the higher spec, I thought they would be no problem!!

I only have 4G at the moment but I just can't get these new sticks to run IntelBurnTest at 1600, I've tried some realy relaxed timings and still fail IntelBurnTest. I'm now wondering if it is the XMP that is the problem.

Realy looking for some advice or options, at BIOS G30

I had the same problem with Geil sticks, when I compared the XMP profile of the sticks in Everest with what had actually been set in the bios with settings on Auto, they were different.

Check this thread:

Scroll down to the memory timings, and set all your timings manually to what that guy recommends (probably wanna start at the high numbers).

I had to do that to get my G Skill sticks to work at stock, using auto the blackops wouldn't even post..

I also vaguely remember reading somewhere that XMP was disabled in a recent bios update.

Starting with g27 or G28 (not sure anymore which one of them it was) the g.Skill 1600 PI 4 GB booted fine for me with everything on auto, on earlier ones it put them at 8-8-8 timings instead.
7-6-6 ftw, cant get them lower though.
Playing with 4 sticks of blue cellshocks now.

anyway, there was a problem with xmp not working properly on older bios versions, but with the newer ones it does work.
However, with a lot of ram you might still end up with booting with 1 stick, boost voltage and then add rest of ram.

I tried both DRAM settings, works good... have 1 stick of Kingston Hyperx 14400/1800MHz Cl_7 and luckily have had no DRAM issue yet...

Theses are my regular/low voltage settings and looking for "a pair of good memory" now:

Thanks for the help & advice. I'm away from home at the mo; when I get back I'll post my settings just in case you can spot something.

I have run memtest no problem but I just can't get IntelBurnTest to run even at the lowest setting, errors on the first pass.

I thought XMP could be turned off if it was implemented in the BIOS..?

As i've said in another thread i've had several profile settings which have been 24hr+ prime stable but have failed the burn test, so i don't use it now. It's up to you, of course.

The XMP profile issues i believe were when the blackops was first out, i remember some people saying in the 'retail' and 'overclocking guide' threads that they had to disabled the XMP profiles to get their sticks to work at all. It doesn't sound like you're having this problem, and as far as i know it was sorted anyways. All XMP does is make your timings default to certain values when on Auto, if you want to 'turn it off' then basically just manually set your timings to what you want yourself :)

Thanks Xello.
You are right I can boot up and run with the XMP profile, my thing is to get low volts 24x7; I hadn't seen your post re IBT; what a great topic this would be.
I've had great success with IBT and Prime95, what I like with IBT was essentialy it allowed me to tune down the voltage quickly, I then followed this up with a long Prime95 run, 3Dmark etc etc.

So I've a nice set of 4G Oz Reaper X that is a little over clocked at 1600 that runs IBT, Prime95 - whatever I run!

I then buy a better specified set of RAM, that runs the XMP profile - Memetest 10 Hours, Prime95 24 hours, both without failure but will not run IBT max stress for 2 pass. Wow ithink what is going on, I try all I know, and nothing changes, high volts, slack timing nothing seems to improve the IBT.
So I'm now stuck, though having said that; I have IBT 60 pass, 27 hours prime95 etc etc working at 1281 with my own settings, tight timing and low volts; most likly good for 8G

So what is going on on here, looks to me like Corsair are over specing their memory while the Oz ReaperX is spec'd on the conservative side! Just in case you wonder why I didn't stay with reaper X, I want to go to 8G, and Reaper X heat sinks are too big....

I'd realy like to understand what is problem that causes IBT to fail so am open to all hints and tips, thoughts and suggestions

hmmmmm good questions... you might want to check the documentation of the IBT or try to contact them to find out what ibt actually does.
that could hint towards why it fails with a pair of mem thats stable otherwise.

could you post a screenshot of the spd tab of cpuz of both kits here so i can have a look at both spd and xmp profiles?
it could be one timing that is tighter for the corsair stuff which then causes it to fail.

im a bit surprised about prime and other tests holding on without any issues for that long tho and then a test failing...
are you using the good old prime95 which is single threadded or are you using orthos or the new prime which kicks off several threads?

the IBT failing rather points to the cpu oc or fsb not beeing 100% stable and not so much to the mem, that would be my guess at least.

Hi Saaya, I'd appriciate any thoughts or coments?

1st is my OCZ ReaperX - works but maybe I could do better.

2nd I have my Corsair working at low speed

3rd Corsair SPD settings showing XMP loaded, all timings at auto; this does not run IBT at all. Though I have had Prime95(64bit 4 threads) run for at least 10 hours.
