Hi Guys

I have been running the Asus P5Q Deluxe for about a month now with one kit of Corsair TWIN2X4096-8500C5D

Thats 2 x 2GB 1066 MHZ 5-5-5-15 Dominator sticks. On Tuesday i received another pair of the same ram. Versions match.

With the 4GB total of ram (two matched sticks) it will boot. Once i add the second two sticks it won't boot at all. It starts but i get no video and no access to the bios.

So far i have tried the following to resolve the issue:
Checked the new pair boot the computer when they are the only twigs in the system.
Booted the pc with both pairs in both the Slot 1 and 3 and 2 and 4.
Adjusted the voltage to the DDR2 to 2.1
Adjusted the voltage to the DDR2 to 2.2
Updated the bios to the latest version.
Tested northbridge voltage at 1.24v

I had the thought of upping the voltage to 2.3 but i am really not sure about doing this at all.

When i bought the mobo i checked and it says that it will work with upto 8GB of memory.

After a bit of research i have heard that i may need to loosen up the timings? I am not sure what this means, is it worth bringing the speed back to 800mhz?

Thanks,
Daniel

i'm thinking of buying the same mobo and memory that you have... and
was actually thinking if there would be any problem if i added another set
in the future...for a total of 8gb (4x2gb) -- just as you have done.

but i did check the reviews on newegg, and some got it to work...kind of.

keep in mind i'm a newbie when it comes to hardware, (this is my 4th post)...
so i don't know if what the reviewers did is safe, proper or optimal.

see the review for 'Monolith' --2/29/2008 and 'fast' --8/30/2008 to see what they said.

please post back your results...i'm still deciding whether to get this mobo and memory combination.

Hi Wkk

Thanks for your post. I post this from a machine now running 8GB of Corsair ram @ 1066mhz.

I did the following in the bios. I am 98% sure this is what fixed it.
I left the NB Voltage at AUTO
Set DDR2 voltage to 2.1V
This is the important part and seemed to be the difference between it working and it not working. An option further up the same page from the voltages is called DRAM Frequency. I set this at first to 800mhz and it booted. Changed it to 1066MHZ and it still booted. Vista x64 shows 8GB of ram. So far being working for an hour. I am going to stress test the system overnight to be sure.

Seems to be all good so far. Besides this small problem i love this board.

Thanks,
Daniel
