First of all hello Xtreme members I am waaay new here and I just want to start by saying hello to you all. I have been lurking around here for weeks and even posting a comment or question. I have started my rig and these forums have been so helpful in just about every aspect. The amazing work I have seen so far almost makes me not want to do a worklog as I feel a bit foolish and even kind of intimidated compared to some of you seasoned "water cooler pro's" This is revision 1.0 as I have already gotten ideas from you all that I am going to implement or even modify in my own rig. I am going to cool the CPU, GPU, Northbridge, southbridge, and Mosfet. OK enough BS here goes.

Current Rig:

Q6600 @ 3.2 Using Enzotech Extreme X CPU cooler

Antec 900

MoBo: Gigabyte X38 DQ6

Vid Card: Evga 8800 GT

PSU: Corsair 620

The WC parts
Swiftech Apogee GTZ

SilverStone Temjin TJ-07 ( quite popular here )

Black Ice GT Stealth 360 XFlow Radiator-Ferrari Red;)

Swiftech MCP355 Pump

XSPC Laing DDC-1T/1TPlus Replacement Top for the pump

EK-Multioption RES 250 Rev 2

EK-FC88 GT/GTS GPU Block

EK-NB/SB 5 Northbridge Water Block(SouthBridge)

EK-SB GA-X38 Northbridge Water Block

On to the build

OK so finally I got my stuff and I am overjoyed and a bit overwhelmed. I honestly have been "fiddling" with my parts for about 2 hours now thinking and figuring. Trying to foresee any potential problems I may run into so I don't get stuck in the middle. As of now all looks very good.

A quick sneak peak at 1 small corner of "The Dungeon" where I do all my builds a bit messy ATM but its a controlled chaos I swear ;)

Let me say how awesome this case really is. It doesn't look that snappy in the pictures but let me tell you this thing is really classy. The brushed aluminum looks great. In addition to it looking great in person this is by FAR the best built case I have ever worked with. This is a TOP quality case you can just feel it when you get your hands on it. The rumors are true this case is great!!!

Here are some shots of the Resevoir The EK-Multioption RES 250 Rev 2

Revision 2 as I found out has a little divider inside to separate the inlet/outlet Awesome advice Clokker thanks again soooo glad I didn't get the Bay res i first looked at.

Next up is the Radiator This is The Black IceŽ GT Stealth 360 XFlow in ferrari red. This thing is huge too, I should have figured because it accepts 3 120mm fans and I happen to have some scyth s-flex's laying around I plan to use there until I can get some San Ace's

http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/4330/dsc00463rf7.jpg

It looks even better in person I have to say :)

All the waterblocks and pump layed out

I really like BP's logo subtle yet cool
http://img53.imageshack.us/img53/2949/dsc00480ln6.jpg

I put some 90 rotary fittings on the Rad next
http://img390.imageshack.us/img390/3446/dsc00482fh1.jpg

http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/879/dsc00483qd6.jpg

I have read and been told the horizontal res placement will not work but now that it is here I am 90% sure it will work :)

http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/5730/dsc00489ap6.jpg

Also if you notice I am wedging the Rad in there using petra's "gel stuff" a recomendation I got from another work log here Thanks TurtleTrax :)

I did have to put 2 90 rotary fittings on the res to get it where I need it though.

inside
http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/8648/dsc00535la1.jpg

I Started to see the Vid Card sag from the weight of the block so I had to come up with a decent "hanger" for my Vid card. I got a piece of 1/8" X 3/8" aluminum and bent a 90 on it and I'm hanging the card suspended from the fan rack on top, easier and cheaper than I thought too.

http://img161.imageshack.us/img161/9250/dsc00537ip4.jpg
http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/347/dsc00538yc6.jpg

http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/1747/dsc00541eh4.jpg

I then drilled holes at both ends and screwed the top and used a nut and bolt at the bottom through a hole in the card. I used electrical tape to avoid any shorts just on the part that makes contact with it.

Here is the general layout or my first idea I want to go with

http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/5748/fullqb5.jpg (http://imageshack.us/)

Now in this pic the pump is sitting in the "basement" like so from the other side. It will not be on the floor however due to a suggestion from a good friend Clokker made to have it hang to reduce noise from any vibration
http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/8278/dsc00550sh4.jpg

I have another idea for pump placement also I am toying with. This one will be mounted to the floor. The route will stay the same I'm pretty sure. I'm not so sure of this one tho

http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/6330/dsc00545us4.jpg

In the 2nd and third shot you can see the HDD cage that came with the case I may use it there but as of now it's just sitting. I think it would look nice having 4 fans across in a row I dunno. as of now I have them as they are above.

I also did the front with my Antec 900 HDD cages like this matches damn well with the top mesh cover:)I need to swap that top fan out though

http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/1390/dsc00554gn4.jpg

http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/3002/dsc00553ul7.jpg

I need to change how my Samsung DVD drive looks with the plastic next to the brushed aluminum not nice at all. I have to get an aluminum Bezel for it I think

Oops a bit close no

Some more angles and pics I took

http://img119.imageshack.us/img119/9041/dsc00548ra6.jpg

A mistake I made when ordering I ordered right angle to right angle SATA cables and now I have to order RA to straight DAMN! These don't work for me :(
http://img119.imageshack.us/img119/7760/dsc00547qt5.jpg

Due to Bitspower having a recall on the fittings I was forced to wait until I could get some more 90's and even a few 45's but then I thought it could be weeks and this is only Rev 1.0 so to hell with it I'm going in :)

I didn't power up my MoBo instead I used the innards of an external HDD enclosure I had laying around to power just the pump and the rad fans. Also I hooked up the drain port but decided not to drill anymore holes and Ill just leave the thing inside and when I need it Ill pull it out so i can point it into a receptacle. I did hang the pump like clokker suggested and I think its a great idea no noise whatsoever :)

I did it looked good I checked my fittings and everything so I am filling her up for a good 20 seconds and all of a sudden I see a puddle running from under my case off the desk and onto the floor obviously I am upset I cant seem to find where its coming from suddenly I see that I forgot to connect one of the hoses to my rad WHAT A :banana::banana::banana:!! I yell over and over.

So I hook up the last hose and clean up the mess check again ok looks good. I continue filling it up and the water stops going down my fillport and stays in the funnel because the air cannot escape. Now I have been told many many times this will be a severe pain to bleed the system set up the way I have it but I know I can do it, so I sit and stare at it for at least 10 min while I have a cigarette and figure what to do next.

I disconnected the hose going to the CPU since that's the highest point on my loop and the water goes down because the air can escape AH HA! still there is too much air in there so I jam the leftover hose I have into the funnel sealing it in there and I blow into it forcing the air out and down into the res ( uhhh I guess I blew my computer) it worked!!! I then add my purple UV dye and am all set to go.

I hooked it up to the external HDD enclosure parts so that if it does leak there would be no real damage to the mobo and the video card (I think right?)also it has a switch so in case of an emergency I could switch the pump off. I cover the vid card with a plastic bag so if it does drip it will roll of the bag and out of the case onto a waiting rag I had set up.

Ok so here goes I switch it on and it works DAMNIT IT WORKS!!! There was a small drip from the barb on the pump but that's my fault because I didn't tighten it enough so I tightened it and all was well again. I watch it run for about 10 min nervously and the wife calls on my cell and says we need to go food shopping, I tell her I cant leave we argue, and so I leave for about 3 hours ( yeah Im a wuss) I figure leave it running and go balls out. If its going to leak it will do so no matter what. 3 hours later I get home and NO LEAKS!! :woot:

It's working really well I think. There is one thing the dye color is a bit uneven in the different hoses but I think that will work itself out right? Also the remaining air bubble in the res acts funny. when the pump is off it sits as it should leveling itself off at the top. When the pump is on it slides to the intake side of the res not in the direction of the water flow?? odd but I think there is some whirlpool action going on in there. This even happens when I tilt it to a steeper incline. It is on a slight unnoticeable one now so I'm not too concerned I will just have to see what happens. The horizontal res is working even better that I expected the air that was in there goes out just as I predicted :P So well infact I made a short video on YOUTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PS2--4gEsDM) and uploaded it for you guys to see

Notice the air bubble and tell me what you guys think

Now I am not done yet I need to do some lighting and stuff but I'm almost there. Also I will be making some changes because I dont like the dye color all that much. I think I'm going to go with Blue. That and a few other changes will be made soon when more stuff comes in the mail :)

ANY and all suggestions and comments are more than welcome. Thanks for reading my mega post guys

Good work, looks good. One can't tell that it's your first try.

A question though, why do half of the pictures have a red tinge? I'd buy a whiter lamp to take pictures with.

If I'm not mistaken that red fillport is anodized AL. Not a problem if it's not in contact with coolant all the time, but something to keep in mind nonetheless. Otherwise looks good!

Not the fillport but the "drain port" is always in contact with the fluid, Why? Did I miss something here?

Nice work!
Thanks so much

AHHHH I know The dye was supposed to be UV red but at times it looks purple or even pink. Not the effect I was looking for. In Rev 1.1 I will be draining the water and going with some feser UV blue

Thanks guys for the replies

Great work so far, has my first loop beaten by a mile :)

What kibbler is talking about is Galvanic corrosion. If an ALu fillort is submersed in a copper loop it will corrode like crazy. If it is not in contact all the time you ar A-OK:)

Again, great work. Only advice I can give is take your time.

That's an amazing first setup. Looking very nice. One comment, I can't tell the direction of flow but make sure the water flowing into your cpu block goes into the lower left barb in your cpu block. The one with the dot right above it. Just a thought, but it might help.

Thanks man a huge compliment coming from you. I am trying to be patient but it's so damn hard
* goes to Google "Galvanic corrosion"....Uh Oh well looks like I am going to have to change the drain port then. Any recommendations anyone?

Wow you know. I think I read that somewhere that there is a directional flow on the waterblocks right? Crap I just put the hoses where I thought they would work out better. I'm going to check it out and all will be fixed come rev 2. Which should be this coming week depending on Bitspower RMA's

Edit: I looked it up and per Swiftech's specifications you are right

The housing is CNC machined out of durable Delrin material, and designed for impingement cooling over the CPU hottest area. The flow path, as illustrated below shows that the Apogee™ GTZ is port specific: inlet and outlet cannot be interchanged.
http://www.swiftnets.com/assets/images/products/apogee%20GTZ/FLOW-PATH.jpg

Thanks for that I have it backwards ATM I will switch it when I drain the water and refill. I knew I came to the right place :)

Just wondering if you have your system booting up and any temp information yet. Just curious because it seems like a lot more blocks than most people put on a single 3x120 rad. Of course, this is XS and people tend to go for a ton of overkill.

OK so after what feels like a year. I finally got to squeeze a few hours in to spend with the rig.

I drained, flushed and refilled my system and changed from red to blue. I felt the red looked more pink than anything and I wasn't happy so blue it is! also I got the sunbeam rheobus and took off the faceplate and replaced it with the brushed aluminum "blank" that came with my case per Cloxxer's suggestion. I think it looks great and WAY easy to do drill a few 1/4" holes for the LED's and a few 3/8" holes for the controllers. I also added a small switch in it as well for my UV lights that I wired together to use 1 switch. Here are some pics of it :)

Before I refilled my system I had to switch the tubes on the waterblock because the apogee GTZ has a directional flow to it and I had the input on the output barb.

The downside was that I had to move my HDD's down to the basement area of the case but even that wasn't so bad, less visible wires and Now there are 4 san ace fans across and it looks cool. Almost all the fans are San ace now and the ones that aren't....will be soon :)

I used some black poster board in a few spots to cover up and give a more finished look to anything I felt needed it. I just did it quickly and I am going to re do it with better cuts when I get a chance.

I changed the "drainport" from the red anodized to a delrin one to avoid corrosion

Thanks so much man, really. Yeah the pink wasn't looking too cool at all and I can't believe I almost bought the controller from PPCS for $40 more pre modded. It took all of 15 min to do and easy as hell. Next I have to put the lan li casters on...looking at it now I prob should have done that first DOH!

Looks great man, you did a hell of a lot better than I did my first go around.

One suggestion, in the future if you're looking for something a little more maintenance free and cost affective, you could try Distilled water and some biocide. Just my .02, great build man.

Hey there.

I have the switch you used and the washer with the funny looking right angle metal bit is suppose to go behind the face plate. If you look at the center where the switch passes through, you will see it has a 'finger' that goes into the grove of the switch. Soooooo when it is on the other side and facing the other way, that little metal thing at the top presses on the top of the red box behind the switch to stop movement.

I know I suck at explaining it but I thought I would try to explain it XD. I don't think it's going to make that much of a difference anyway.

One hell of a first build, and I like the idea of the horizontal res. Great job man, and it looks like you had a lot of fun with it.

Again, great work and congrats on your new build.

Thanks so much. I thought I was soooo cleaver when I wanted to mount it horizontal and I thought I was original as well....until I came here. A good friend said to me when it comes to WC a rig there isn't an original idea anymore it's been done already. TBH people said it wouldn't work this way but mine does just fine. I am OCing here to 3.6 now and am getting temps around 30 idle and 44 loaded with occt for 6 hours so I think I'm doing OK :) I did have alot of fun, I already want to build a dual loop but I think I want to wait for the Nehlam CPU's first and throw some money into one of those bad boys so I gotta save up a bit.

Funny I do know exactly what you mean.I thought that was for a wood installation where the finger would press into the wood and keep it from spinning. I tightened it pretty good and it doesn't spin now so I'll prob jus leave it

very clean job. nice alum support. good blue color, seems better for gigabyte mobo...

(i like tube routing with water flowing from bottom inlet to top outlet, which your mosfet is not, something to to with trap air bubbles...)

Never thought of it like that, I did it this way because it looked better IMHO. The other way there would be a big X there and I feel it would look less clean. There is no air in that part of the system at all. any air gets trapped in the res and is sent up the fillport tube if it were to become too much. My idea anyway.

very nice Detale.
i saw some anti-kink coils there. aren't you putting them on the tubes?
although by the looks of it, you won't have any kink problems with those near routes you have there!

I was going to put them on but in all honesty I forgot. Then I liked the way it looked without them so I may put them on in the near future but as of now I think I'll leave them off.

Nice work! I'll be doing my first WC setup this week too. I like the horizontal reservoir! Sorry if I missed it in the original post, but what are you using for coolant and dyes? The blue looks much better than the red did imo. And, surprisingly, the bracket you made for your video card actually creates a cool seperation in the case, looks good! :)

No problem I went with Feser Blue UV this time and I am happy with the results. I cannot say enough how easy the bracket was. It was $3 or so at home depot. I bent it with a pair of pliers and drilled two small holes. Easy peezy and cheap too.
