Lets hear your comments.
I would say the D200 for price and + it has a magnesium body.

I'd prefer the D200 over the D90. IMO it has a much better body which is important for me.

Alot better body, but it has issues with the low pass filter on the sensor. Hard to say what I would go with.

What is this? Something specific to the D200 only? Because the D80 has the exact same sensor...

D200 has a much better body...but D90 has the newer sensor and will be able to use about double the ISO before heavy noise. There is just too much to write about here though in the differences between the two.

The pics I've seen at ISO 6400 suck. There is wicked amounts of noise.
The D90 has the same sensor as the D300?
And now that the FX sensor is coming out Nikon will have to revamp their lenses again. I do have to say it is great using a film lens on a DX camera. No chance in hell for vignetting.

FX sensor is coming out? Nikon has had their FX format sensor out for almost a year now. It is made by Sony but interestingly Nikon implements it better than Sony does in their own cameras...

The D90 has the same sensor as the D300, just as the D80 and D200 were the same.

Okay, I should say a more affordable version than a D3.
My point was they developed the DX lens series for a specific sensor. Now they will be using the larger sensor and will need to come up with with a new series of lenses.

...like a D700?

They've had FF lenses for a long time.

Yes like the D700. Yea all the 35mm film lenses were that size. They used to worry about vignetting back then, but when they started using those lenses on the DX format it was impossible to get vignetting. I wonder why they cut the lenses so close that they get vignetting in the first place? You would think they would make a lens that has no problem in that area to satisfy the critics.

I was under the impression that there would always be natural illumination falloff to contend with if optical vignetting didn't get to it first

I asked myself the same question and decided to get a D90, for no specific reason tbh =)

What comes after that D90 though? Can't be a D100...

D95?

IMO they should have started lower, IE D10/D100/D1, D20/D200/D2, D30/D300/D3

Not sure why they decided on 70/80/90...

My guess is they change up the name completely.

Soulburner and MaxxxRacer are you going to put a pic or 2 in the contest this month?

Have a look here:

http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d300.htm

D90 hands down, but don't get the 18-105 that they try to sell with it. It's too soft and too expensive.

I have a D300 with:
18-55 55-200 18-200 70-300 and 80-400 all nikor VR and I dearly love them all.

The body is absolutely awesome.
The D90 shares the same sonsor, has the big LCD, and takes video. It just has a plastic body which isn't sealed like the D300's magnesium body.

But the D200 is old technology. Sensor is inferior, you won't be as happy with picture quality as you will with the D90.

I'm very close to buying one for a second body.

Both the D80 and D40x have the D200 sensor, but neither of them have the issue, and Nikon fixed it. It wasnt bad enough to recal the D200 or to offer a free repair, because you would have to replace the whole sensor, but the issue is there.
