Hi Guys-

A friend of mine got a E8600 from newegg and planned to use it on the IP35PRO.

It was previously working perfectly with a Q6600.

Now after switching to the E8600, upon boot, the bios shows '8.7.' error code which means 'Check CPU Voltage.'

Half the time:

- The motherboard will power down with 8.7. code displayed.
- The motherboard will kind of restart (the 8.7. will quickly switch to 8.6. (set PWN to cpu voltage) and against settle to 8.7.)
- After couple of times of doing (2), it suddenly boots. Sometimes, it will keep doing the process.

That has totally killed the entire joy of the ocing process. Any ideas?

From what I read in the manual the 8.7. error happens even before the motherboard gives control to the bios.

From the symptoms it seems more like an electrical incompatibility that the need for a new bios.

Anyone here using a E8600 with ip35pro

the E8600 runs on a much lower voltage than the Q6600 does. all motherboard required a BIOS update to properly run Wolfdales when they were released. if i were you, i'd put the old quad back in and update the BIOS. then put the Wolfdale back in.

i guess you can pull the BIOS reset jumper and boot like that. see if doing a hard reset on the BIOS helps.

You mean clear the bios?

It is so random (the booting) that I am kinda leaning towards believing that the IP35 PRO is flawed in some way. And from the looks of it, a bios update cannot fix this.

Anyone using a IP35 PRO with a E8600!!?
