I think 22x times is about as fast as I gets (at this point). The Samsung SH-S223 is a very popular choice if you want SATA.

Think Plextor.

What's that supposed to mean? Random spam? From what I can see, the fastest Plextor drives burn at 20x. How is this faster than Samsung's 22x? You should at the very least provide a model its burn speeds to support your claim.

I looked here btw: http://www.plextor.com/ENGLISH/PRODUCTS/product_dvdrw_drives.html

According to one of our WEB's specialized in anything that can burd on medias the PLEXTOR series has 0 tolerance against faulty DVD's can't read them. Just bought 2x 223Q from Samsung and I'm amazed, silent, fast, great reading , good seek times

I think so...........either way, they were extremely way overpriced (junk) IMO.

As far as the "fastest" drive? It depends on the media, if it's also compatible at the burning speed the drive is.....otherwise you'd be stuck with 16x.

I use two different burning software and the FREE version let's me burn the DVDs at 18x while the expensive junk software (Nero 8 U) will not allow an 18x speed burn w/o having a coaster, SOB Nero.

So, basically 3 are the factors that you'll have to look at if you want speed overall.

i think most blank DVD's are 18x max. that's why i said what i said. maybe the OP has some real fast media though. i don't know.

I try to never burn at higher than ~50% of max([max burner speed], [max media speed]) as I've heard it produces better burns (lower failure rate, fewer burn errors even on 'acceptable' burns). So with a 22x burner and 18x media I'd try to burn at maybe 8x-10x. Plus, it's quieter!

If I'm in a hurry (friends are waiting to watch a DVD or something) I burn on highest of course.
