Edit: Now i see it. Ouch i hope it didn't come like that!

Hey ZoLKoRn, how do you think the 4-phase PWM will cope with a 45nm quad? I've seen some nice results but can't help thinking that a few extra phases might be safer?

come on man dual core clocking is easy, anything can clock a dual core decently.
its quad cores thats hard (past 450mhz)

we wanna see some quad clocking.

QUAD QUAD QUAD QUAD,, come everyone chant with me.. QUAD QUAD QUAD QUAD

oh.. great OC results man. ;)
it makes the board seam more worth its price. but its still kind of pricey.

Its sweet the keep using the nb/hp system with removal of nb cooler without breaking warranty, its awesome style

Looking forward to ln2 action

well i thought on 4phase PWM it will not problem with 45nm Quad but however i can't confirm is it will 100%

so waiting a moment now it on test base again with QX9650 and i'll come update ;)

haven't even tried stressing it yet for max FSB
this was a simple setting i just threw in the bios.
OCCT stable
vdroop puts me at around 1.28v
so 0.03v droop is very nice with the limited stage voltage control it has.

http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/2752/q9650p45jrsx8.jpg

i was able to boot and OCCT for 2 minutes at 465 FSB. OCCT gave me an Error 1 (what ever that means.) at 1.55 NB, 1.35 FSB VTT, and 3.60v Clockgen
not sure what i need to adjust to make it stable, but this is VERY similar to what i have seen most full size ATX boards do with quads.
once you get above 450~460 FSB things get really sketchy on a quad and take usually alot of tweaking.

there is also an Advanced Bios Tweaking if you hit F9 on the main bios page, this opens up all the clock Skew controls and tons of ram stuff which i am not even going to touch.

the latest 09/01/2008 bios implements VCORE DROOP COMPENSATION!!!!
DISABLE IT to get ZERO droop
WOOT!!!

it still isnt a very good board for ME. even with an E8500 which can run 4.7ghz i cant even boot past 450mhz FSB no matter what i do.

we've asked several times for people to post their bios settings, does no one want to share ?

Ah nice, they just posted 09/01/2008, I have been using 09/12/2008 beta, must be the final of it since it also has the vdroop option. There is still .03v droop but that is normal. Will give 09/01/08 a try this eve.

You are going to have to tweek the F9 settings to boot at high FSB, it seriously took me 3 weeks of work to get anything out of this thing and everyone's optimal settings are totally different (even with the same CPU/mem). Mess with GTL first and then move to CPU and mem skews.

there is ZERO vdroop if you set the vcore droop setting to disable, if you leave it enabled, like the asus mobo's the vdroop is normal.

and i will ask again please someone post their bios settings.
the F9 settings are totally wako, way different than other boards i have seen and settings i have never had to mess with to get other boards to boot up at 500+ fsb.

someone throw this ol dog a bone here please.

I had this board. At 375mhz FSB, the system was completely unstable, random BSODs, or hard locks, or it just would restart when it tried to load windows.

i do not like it
its a Rev A3 P45 (per cpu-z)

stop running 4 sticks of ram for starters.
next stop going up in so little fsb steps.
just slam the fSB to 400 then 450, them after that with a quad its really hard, you need to do alot of tweaking.
set vcore accordingly. maybe +.250mv (just to try it, then lower or raise it if you need to)
Just to start with try these settings.
set Nb to 1.45 and CPU VTT to 1.33v (those are bios settings. the actual reading will be a little lower but thats ok)
All 3 GTL voltage settings just leave at .67x (just to get your system running.)

set ram divider to 333/667 or 333/800
you can use 400/800 also as its a really loose setting and lets quads clock higher.

also the bios is supposed to let you use the Home button on your keybaord as a last known good boot setting incase the system doesnt want to boot, and
Insert as a Clear CMOS,
has anyone gotten those to work, i have never been able to make those work for me...

I already returned the board. Also, I had been using the EXACT settings you're referring to. When I was testing, I only had 2 sticks installed, so it shouldn't have been a RAM limitation. I might have only been using 1.4v on the NB, but still, 375mhz should have given me a problem because it was too small a step up?

Hello I am new in the Xtreme Forum.
I've bought this mobo recently and I'm very happy with it. Q6600 G0 @3,2GHz at stock voltage and 3,6GHz at 1,4V 24/7. I've been using Matrox 4MB, and its time to move up to some 4870 CF or 4870x2 due to the limitted space between the cards. Is the x8 PCI-E slow for such cards? Have you made some tests between x16x16 and x8x8?

shouldn't be too bas to be honest as its pcie Gen2 so pcie 2 x8 = pcie 1 x16

so wont be too much of a hit if atall

i'm waiting for your picture, i just wonder it will fit or not, because currently i'm not own it, but in future i might grab one..

that mean with the caps at PWM are will not have any problem, so it's just NB height is the problem, am i right?:)

Well after i tried to install Core-Contact Freezer on JR-P45 after replace stock NB heatsink so it can't install same time for place to HR-05 or Noctua :( but if place to some zalman NB heatsink it work! and you can see from picture but it need some saw little fin about two row :D

btw. i think if change to HR-05 SLI it'll can install Core-Contact Freezer maybe :)

I didn't have much luck over 440FSB on my JR, so i'll give these settings a shot.

Try lowering GTLs if you run into trouble early on. The E8400 I put in there didn't like 445*9 at first, but when I set GTLs to 0,63x instead of 0,67x while leaving the VTT at 1,1V it worked like a charm. Also running 2x2GB@1066 with only 1,34V NB set in bios.
I really like the board, just 1 issue: You MUST disable EIST (speedstep) it's buggered.. if you enable it, the DFI will substantially raise the Vcore if loaded (like 1,2V bios setting, load >1,3V). Really annoying.

@ZoLKoRn: try using the Xigmatek Porter, maybe it will work.

As the screenshots show I had no issue with SpeedStep.

I tried with 2 CPUs, E8400 E0 and E7300 M0. Both showed the same strange behaviour (load Vcore 0,1-0,15V above bios setting!) with EIST enabled. C1E enabled gives no problems.
Bios used was shipping bios, which seemed to be newer than the one offered on DFis own website. After I flashed to the bios on the DFI page, the Vdroop control feature was gone, so I re-flashed the other bios (09 something).

Might want to try another BIOS. 10/07 I used for the screenshots doesn't appear to have the issue. I do have VDROOP set to "Disabled" but that was a mistake on my part. I was doing some other testing and forgot to change it back to "Enabled" when I did those benches.

I now have the 10/30 BIOS loaded and VCORE is fine with it when both EIST and C1E are "Enabled" regardless of VDROOP setting.

How hard was it to achieve that stability Praz?

I was told 600FSB on air is easy, I would like to see what dream world that is true in.

If it wasn't for having to manually set FSB Vref I'd say real easy. Just too many choices there if the user doesn't have an idea where to start at. I haven't tried any higher FSB. Will do so in the next day or so. As to how easy 600 FSB is most likely depends on star alignment and a few other mystic powers. lol.

Very nice results Praz...i'm getting there myself...4.2GHz is perfectly stable for me, struggling to get 4.3GHz good for 24/7...might wait until I setup my h2O.

Possible to get screenshots or a list of all voltages set to hit 550x8? I wanna make sure I'm not missing out on something with the board so I can figure out if it's voltages/settings with the mobo or CPU holding me back.

That's what I'm gonna have to wait for, I'm investing a lot of time in my Silverstone TJ08 mATX case. Sort of a good thing because my the time there are decent mATX boards on the market the chipset has usually matured a decent amount and I won't be stuck as a guinea pig.

awesome news "DFI x58 Core i7 mATX" :slobber: seems like DFI is the only company bringing mATX to X T R E M E, i wish ASUS Gigabyte and others will pick up the idea for some serious competition "where is the ROG mATX?" do they think all gamers like 24 inches tall cases?. in my opinion DFI Lanparty JR P45T2RS is for now at the top of the list for Lanbox.

And that's what mine is. I'm working at designing a completely internal watercooling loop for the CPU using a 120.2 rad to fit in my mATX TJ08...and knowing that I could move to DFI's X58 mATX board and pickup a second GTX260 is amazing!!!

Where do I get the 10/30 bios?
I downlaoded latest bios from DFI (it's the 10/07 I think) and the issue is still there.
As soon as EIST is enabled, it raises the Vcore to 1,39V when loaded (idle is 1,23-1,24V like it should be). Tried with Vdroop control enabled and disabled.
EIST off and it's 1,23V regardless of C state (running the E0 E8400 at 4Ghz).
C1E always enabled...

Thanks.. will try tomorrow. Apart from that the mobo passed every test I could think of with flying colours. I only had to lower GTL refs to 0,63.. the E8400 hated the stock GTL settings (0,67) of the mobo

You're welcome. Hopefully you see better results with that BIOS.

Well, if EIST would work, the whole rig would consume approx. 50W less while in idle. Subsequently, temps would go down, which in turn means lower fan rpm.
If only they would have implemented some sort of fan control (no, CPU fan only is NOT a fan control...). If I had to pick 1 point I don't like about this board, it would have to be the lack of fan control capabilities.
This is when I wish Abit wouldn't leave the market...

Oh i love this little thing, but how stable is the vcore? Is it "Commando VCore", or is it pretty stable with only 4 phase.

jcool
11-23-2008, 02:59 PM
With Vdroop control disabled, the Vcore doesn't move 1 bit like on the "big" 8 phase X38/X48 UT/LT boards. Idle = load Vcore, at least with the E8400@4Ghz.

I am happy to report that EIST works correctly with the latest 10/30 beta bios. 1,15V idle/1,23V load now.

Good to hear you got it sorted. If you use C1E/EIST with Vista don't use the Balanced Power plan and the x7 multiplier together. A bug causes the multiplier to stay at x6. All other multipliers work as does changing the power plan to Performance.

Thanks. I only use E8400's at max mult with this mobo tho.. got 5 DFIs in yesterday, all 5 gone already :D
Best E8400 needed 1,19V to do the 4Ghz, worst 1,29V. All liked the 0,63x GTL ref/1,10V VTT combination for FSB 445.
I really like this mobo, no headaches really.
