i have a tuniq tower 120 that i need to get off of the mobo in my sig but that thing is stuck on like super glue by just the tape itself and i'm literally bending the board trying to get it off but no avail. it just wont come off
(i found out later its best not to take the tape off and just screw it in but too late)

anyone else had this problem? i'm trying to change CPU coolers to a thermalright HR-01

try agent orange and spray the residue off with contact cleaner?

i'm at a loss, help please!!

He's talking about the CPU backplate (I hope). its used for pulling a heatsink/waterblack tight to the CPU's face without warping the PCB. I just asked for pics so we could better understand what we're up against.

Here a pic of mine:

Without the backplate my motherboard would be shaped like a convex. but i didnt use any doubble sided tape on mine. i just used strips of armaflex.
You should be able to use a hair drier to heat that adhesive up. i couldnt tell you how hot you should take it, but im sure you could get away with 140F (on the backplate its self), maybe more...

its the backplate on the other side of the mobo that holds that heavy ass heatsink on. its the backplate on the right, with the space in the middle of the tape. i cant get the backplate off because the tape is like literal superglue on the back. its very similar to this black one but more 2 sided tape

Do you have a heatgun or a blow dryer? If so heat it up slowly and not to hot. Just got enough to loosen the glue.

unfortunately i dont have either. i was thinking of using a solvent and then cleaning up the residue with contact cleaner.

damn that company for not saying its nearly impossible to take the backplate off without literally breaking the board:mad:

at leaste set it in the sun to warm it up. Any heat will help (to some degree)
