I have a Gigabyte P35 DQ6 with the ICH9R southbridge. I know that this chipset will allow you to migrate an existing instalation onto a RAID array, but does the ICH9R allow you to migrate an existing installation onto another single disk?

I ask because I am considering buying a Samsung F1 1TB drive to replace my existing WD 160GB drive and thought that migrating the existing drive onto a 160GB partition on the new drive would give me the double benefit of not having to reinstall windows and would also give me a nice speed boost by having my Windows on a small partition at the beginning of the drive.

What are my chances, or am I better off just doing a fresh install?

Just use Acronis or Norton Ghost to make a backup of the hdd. Take the old one out, pop in the new one the restore to it.

Partition Magic would do the job as well

I Should have my new drive tomorrow, I'll see how things turn out. Thanks for the advice.

Btw, should I put my page file onto my 160GB drive, or should I just lump it onto the 1TB drive?

How much ram do you have? I have 4gigs, so I turned the pagefile off.
