I've just noticed there's now 3 640 GB HDD's out.

Samsung, Western Digital and Seagate. All have similar stats except the samsung supposedly uses 2 333GB platters and the seagate uses 32mb cache.

Anyone got any info on how these perform in comparison to each other?

Seagate has 5 year warranty, that's why I chose it

I think you'll get the most value out of the samsung since I only get 596 gb of useable space from my wd because it uses 320gb platters. Thing is, the wd is supposed to be much quieter (and a tad slower but not by much)

You only get 596Gb of usable space because HDD manufacturers consider 1Kb = 1000b, while Windows considers 1Kb = 1024 (2^10)b. Simple math will show you that 596*2^30 = 640*10^9.
Also, I'm reluctant to reccomend Samsung for HDDs since their NCQ fiasco.

That's windows, not WD.
