It is, theres actually a guy that made his own lapping kits, he bought boxes, sandpaper, mirrors then boxed it all up with instructions and sold them in his spare time.

Personally, I go to the local hardware store asnd pick up a pack of normal metal sandpaper, cant see your face but gets it nice and smooth.

CCW usually they don't have fine grit at local hardware store, you'll to go to some auto shop

If you want really fine grits check out craft stores and glass places.

If you wanna be really l33t do what i did, GET first Brasso (liquid sandpaper) first rub it with that stuff, then http://www.elitecool.com/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=92

get that, comes with 10000 grit polish.

BTW Dtek copied that idea from that site, because dtek just came out with it unlike that site which has had it for a year (lol). :D

A five pack of 1/4 sheets of those grits will run you about $3.00 in the auto stores, if that's any indication. But then I tend to go through a couple of those sheets per grit.

the sand paper in "CD repair" kits is quite good.

Just go to halfords in the UK, they sell a pack of different grades for a few quid.

Brasso is a bad idea as its a polish and acts like a (very poor) TIM filling in the gaps on your heatsink.
Your better off with 1500grit then use done polish with brasso.

D-Tek didn't steal their idea, I have it on good authority that they wholesale from the same company. :D

of COURSE you should lap it! :D

BTW, I think Tennvols_69 is talking about my standard kit with glass. I have some 10,000 grit polishing compound that will do an exceptional job but it cuts verrrrrrrrry slowly. In fact, it wil be almost a waste of time unless you use mechanical advantage like a dremel tool with a felt pad.

I have plenty of this on hand, all anyone has to do is request some and I will include it in a kit of any kind for free.

if you look at the paper hes reflecting, it was done with one of insulglass's kits. I've used one myself, got the same results. HIGHLY reccomended.
